Boost Gauge

Greetings Well I took the plunge and purchased a 2001 Tacoma. Cool part, for me, is the truck is supercharged. My other truck is an 1984 Toyota with the 22r, while it is a fantastic truck, this new one is light years ahead of it. I am used to going slow and with the new truck I zip along, have to watch myself, aint nothing to exceed the limit. Never had that problem before with the 22r.

The new truck has a Boost Gauge and I understand the boost side but the vacuum side confuses me.
What is the optimum vacuum for economy, I try to keep the right foot out of it and keep the gauge needle in the middle, no boost no vaccum.

I have alot to learn about this new truck. The old truck was a breeze to work on and mod. I feel sorry for my old truck, it is going away in the garage for awhile, gonna move some stuff around and tuck it away for a long nap. My son will drive it in 4.5 years.

At a steady cruise on the highway, you should read at or about zero. That's about the most economical position. Let off the gas and it should go to vacuum (I've seen 27" on mine), romp on the gas and it goes to boost. Pretty simple actually but not as effective (IMHO) as just a vacuum gage mounted before the supercharger.

I wouldn't base fuel economy on a boost gauge reading, but rather common sense. It's the same principal you've always used to get good gas mileage. Optimal cruising speeds of 55-65 and easy takeoffs. Good luck with the new rig!!
