Question Black Pearl Emblem Issue...

Hey guys,
I just received my black pearl emblems from irontoad.com (this after they initially got the order mixed up and sent me the wrong set of emblems) and I really don’t care for them as much as I thought I would. I saw how some other cars and trucks looked with theirs and these just plain suck. I was expecting a little bit of gloss and more of a flat black look, but what I received looks like someone took a black marker and then followed it with a coat of high gloss glaze or something.
Has anybody else run into this issue? I am thinking about stripping all my emblems off and painting them myself…at least I can get the look that I want. Well I have to go put these things back in the mail…that’s more money to use on the bilisteins I guess.

Inputs please?
Outkast`

I have the black peral emblems on my 4Runner. They look like black crome and are shinny. Not as shinny as the regular crome, but they do look nice.

I think Bob has a write-up on this. You could always just do that.

I'm putting them on a black runner, and I kinda wanted less gloss and more black. That's all.... 8[

I've got a black '01 rig runner with black pearls. Looks great compared to gold/silver in my option.

I've only got one issue. The "4Runner" pearl badge on the left side of the liftgate ('01) is actually starting to peel slightly along the upper right/lower left corners. Not sure what caused it, but I'm pretty sure I've never damged it since I don't use a buffer and only wash/dry by hand.

Unfortunately, I just got tagged by a Pathfinder Monday morning. Now, compliments of her insurance co, I'm getting a new middle/passenger side rear bumpers, and a new OEM liftgate and all new black pearl badging to go along with it.

I'm gonna check out the new emblems before the put them on just make sure they look the same.

Do your emblems look like this.....

I have seen pics of emblems that were a flat black, while these and my '02 Sport black emblems were glossy black. I kinda like the look of the flat black, the glossy black almost looks chrome.

Sorry, Montypics is not posting the pic. I will search in here for a post I made concerning these emblems.

Try it again....

I did Bob's method of painting my gold emblems black pearl. When I sprayed the first coat on, they looked chrome because of the transparancy of the pearl I guess. The second coat made them more black and I am very happy with them... it's been several months now with no problems they still look as good as new.

I have a black runner witht he black pearl emblems. they are shiny sort of, at first anyway, once they get some dust on the they dull a little, until the dust it washed off. they still look pretty good after 5 years if I do say so myself, I hate the chrome look too but these have a lower toned look then full on chrome.

They've survived a mostly sunny So Cal environment w/ NO problems, no chipping, etc.

For $7 you can't beat it. I can't tell you how many non-4runner owners have emailed me and said "thanks".
