The better of the bunch

I'm planning on buying a toyota truck of some year im just wondering which one has the best features. As in better engine, easier to get parts for, and things like that. I'm planning on using it on and off road, i also plan to do some modifications to it as in suspension, engine and body modifications. A run down of the engine types would be AWSOME. ALso are thier any draw backs to getting an older model (say upper 80's).

The reason i ask is because i got myself into a mess when i purchased my current car because i didnt research. Turns out the specific engine that is in my car isnt what i was exactly looking for. Crappy 420a as opposed to 4g63.

In advance thanks alot for your help. .

I agree, a solid front axle 85 4Runner in mint condition would be sweet. Now, it is going to be really hard to find one in mint condition, and if you do, you are not going to get financed for the mark-up, so I hope you have cash.

My second vote would be a 99-00 4Runner with an e-locker and 5 speed manual.

Good luck!
