Best Way to remove Broke bolt????????

Hey guys I was working on my dads car today (93 Ford Escort 1.9L), and went to take off the valve cover and the first bolt that I hit with the wrench broke with minimal effort. So for the rest I put a little heat and hit on top of the wrench and they came out fine. So heres my question what the best way to remove the broken bolt, and no you cant get any thing on the stud to turn it.
Should I drill and use and extractor
Should I drill until close to the threads then tap out the rest
Should I go get a reverse drill bit and try that method
Also the heads are aluminum THanks guys

My girl friends car sufers from the same situation. I plan on doing the following:
1. Spay with liquid wrench 10 days before attempting to extract.
2. Drill out the center and try an extacter but I don't expect it will work
3. Drill it out more untill there is only a thin shel left and attempt to break it out with pliers.
4. Since that probably won't work eather, the last step is just drill it all the way out, buy a tap and tap some nice new treads.

I'm sure I'm not looking forward to it any more than you are.

Reverse drill bits and easy outs, I've used both quite a lot on all the old bolts on my 85, but I've also had to tack weld on something a few and then take them off.

Good luck!

dwh.....
Try giving the bolt a nice strong tap using a punch. If the surface is flat enough and perpendiclular to the surface you're extracting from, this will loosen up the threads a little. I'm not talking about mushrooming the bolt if it's at all above the surface, just tap it. Then easy out it.

If the easy out does not work just drill the center of the bolt progressively larger until you can pick the threads out.

it looks sort of like a tapered reverse drill bit.
