Hey... I want to install a kill switch mounted under the seat that will cut off engine power if tired to start (hot wire). I don't want to put in an alarm because the only thing I care about getting stolen is the truck itself. My pops is an electrician so wiring it up won't be an issue. Just want to know some opinions of where to install the switch along the electric path. I don't want the switch to reset everything when I turn it on (i.e. radio station presets). Any info would help. Thanks in advance.

 

I'm going to put in (2) kill switches...one for the fuel pump and the other for the starter...both locked up in my soon to be Tuffy center console that can be locked up. They might still steal it if they really want it, but it won't be easy.

 

How are you going to wire the starter deal? Is there a way to splice a switch into the fuse box or something?

 

I had a kill switch on the coil of my 65 Stang. It would turn over but would not start. A thief might think there was something wrong with the car and, I could hear the starter from inside the house. You can't do that to your rig but a switch on the fuel pump would do the same.

 

I disconnected my clutch start switch, so you have to press the Clutch Start Cancel switch everytime the truck is started. I don't know if thats what your looking to do, but its an easy 2 minute mod. One of these days ill hook up a fuel pump cutoff switch.

 

hmmmm...... that sounds like a great idea to me!!! what do you mean you "disconnected" it? do you have some sort of instrutions?

put it on the wire to start the pump...

 

There is some sort of kit that my mom's boyfriend was going to put on his Blazer that would lock up the brakes when the switch was on. This would prevent anyone from stealing, even moving the truck. I wonder if I can find the website that had the info....

 

All you really need is a flash light. Find your clutch pedal, follow the pedal up to the bracket and you will see a little switch. If you push in the pedal you will see the switch be pushed in. Look towards the back of the switch and u will see a electrical connector. Just disconnect it. If need be, Ill take pictures tomorrow.

Now that ive been driving with it like that for the last 2 months its almost nature to hit the switch when starting it. Definitly worth the effort for a little extra security.

 

when i first bought my 4Runner it had a switch box in it. you had to rotate the headlight toggle to the first position, or else it wouldn't start. it was pretty funny when my gf at the time couldn't start the car, but i had the "magic" touch...... after a while i started having starter issues, and traced it back to the box, so i yanked it-
