Best ext. Themometer Sensor Placement
#1
Where is the best place to mount an external temp. sensor on a 4Runner?
I've tried the front right bumper corner. worked ok, temp climbed when standing still from engine heat but not as bad as the following. Today I ran it back along the frame to about 1.5 feet in from of the pass. side rear tire. This doesn't work so well either (yes, it dawned on me now the heat bleeding off the muffler is speading accross the bottom of the body and giving far too inaccurate temp info. So now I'm thinking I need to run it back up to the front bumper. Help. Thanks

My one for my Gentex mirror is right under the left headlight. I also have the temp climbing issue. The recommended location for mine is in the middle, in front of the radiator, behind the bumper. I doubt that would not get engine heat either though.

I think mine came from Target. It's mounted behind the gear shift, below the stereo. It measures internal, external temp and battery voltage. The voltage meter is very handy when I'm places where a battery too low to start the car would be a very bad thing. (I do have a portable jump pack to mitigate that danger though.)
