The best/easiest way to install Electrical Oil Pressure Gauge

Hi All. What is the the best and easiest way to install an Electrical Oil Pressure gauge on a 2000 4runner. Do I just need to tap it to the oil pressure sensor or sender beside the oil filter. Does anyone have pics of the sender or where to tap it to for the 2000 4runner.

Any other reccomendation welcome... Thanks.

If you look to the left of the oil filter and directly below the oil pressure sender there is an allen head (hex head) plug that can be removed. It's a PITA to break loose since it's locktite'd in there. I don't remember the thread pitch, but I took it to NAPA and made an adapter. Don' t forget to use teflon tape when you install you sender. Sorry no pics.

you will need a 8mm allen key to remove plug next to oil filter and a 3/8 to 1/8 npt bushing to install sender. heres a pic of my auto meter gauge.

Hi Guys, Finally had the chance to start working on my gauge. I see two allen head. I am going to install the sender right below the Sensor Plug. It looks like its going to be a pain in the A$$ to take it off because it seems that there is not enough room to wiggle around there. Oh Well, I will try it.

Also, I am assuming you do not have to drain the oil as long as the engine is cold right?

You don't have to drain the oil, but a little will run out even if you do so it doesn't matter. Good luck getting an allen head on it, your best luck may be to actually buy a bit from sears and use some extensions on a ratchet wrench and get at it from the wheel well. It took me about 10 minutes using a regular L-shaped allen wrench to just break it loose.

Hi Guys. Finally completed installing the Oil Press. Guage. By the way thanks for all the help. It took me around 4 hours to install. Taking off the plug was the hardest and longest time. Dressing up the wires also took me a while. Overall, the install was easy if you pre-plan everything. I used a 8mm bit as adviced with a 1/2 drive and the stubby adapter. I've test drove it for a while to see if there was any leak. Found none, which is good.

What is the pressure you guys are getting on Idle? and what is the ideal pressure when accellerating.

Anyways, here are a few pics.

i get above 75lbs at fast idle, once it warms up to normal idle it reads below 25lbs, pressure goes up as i accelarate. if you get no reading its because of the teflon tape, sender must must be grounded to complete circuit.:pig:

Since you added the aftermarket oil gauge, were you still able to keep the oem oil gauge working or does it not work anymore? Just wondering cuz on my old '87 turbo I couldn't get both of them to work at the same time.

Boss Hog just answered the question.

At Idle I am getting below 25 like you mentioned. While accelerating, depending on how hard I mash the pedal, I get between 50 to 75. Then it goes back below 25. I will continue to monitor.

Also, How do we know if something is wrong by using the Oil Press. Gauge?

I get 12 psi at idle, if it goes below 10 psi at idle that's bad. Approximately 10 psi per 1000 rpms is fine.
