ATF temp : Shock Leaking??

I went wheeling today and ran into a few questions.

1. I drove up a long uphill trail and when I was nearing the top my AT Oil Temp light came on, now I have a plate style tranny cooler installed but it still overheated... I checked the fluid level and it was fine.... could it just be dirty or something? any idea on why it's heating up so much? I let it idle in Park for about 10min and it went off and I drove the rest of the trail with out it lighting up again.

2. When I was done wheeling I got out to give the truck a look over and I noticed that there was oil all over the Pass. side lower A-arm... at first I thought I'd blown a CV boot but the were both fine. It seemed that the clearish-brown oil was coming from inside the shock boot or some place right near the top of the shock. Can a shock bust a seal and leak like that? or do you think it's coming from the engine and leaking onto the top of the shock?
If the shock is bad does anyone have any recommendation on a replacement brand?

thanks

I have been having trouble with my trans light coming on also. I am getting a temp guage so I can better watch what is going on--I dont even know how hot it gets before the idiot light comes on.

Shortly after I got my 4runner last Sept., that light kept coming on. I had the tranny flushed for $79.99 and it hasn't come on since. This reminds me, it's almost 30k...need to get it done again.

ok, so I do think it was the shock leaking... I took off that shock and the whole inside of the shock boot was coated in oil. so is it bad for me to drive like that untill I get new shocks? and since I'm lifted 4" what shocks do you guy recommend?
