Why will it only fit 1988 and up 4Runners?

Whats the difference between the 87 and 88?

Toyota came out w/ the V6 engine in '88 so the locker won't work on a 4cyl diff, unless the Runner is equipped w/ a factory turbo.

Thus shoulda known.

Saw the same differences when looking for a locker just didnt make sense when i looked at it quickly.
