I take it the fuel companies went back to the summer mix. I was getting 150 per tank of mid grade fuel. I decided I will save some money and go to regular. Well I am just under a half tank and at 110 miles. I am going to hit like 190 on this tank. I love it! Anyone else noticing more gm?

 

you might want to do the comparison with the same grade gas. often running a higher octane allows the ecu to advance the timing, so you create more power, and then go faster and burn more fuel. i can only run mid grade in my 22re or else it pings like crazy, but i can run anything in my subaru. and when i run regular i get 25-27 on the highway, and when i run mid grade i get about 21-23 on the highway. everything else the same.

 

I've noticed. During the winter I can get around 170 miles on a tank. During the summer I can hit 200+...

It also has a lot to do with the ambient air temp. The warmer it is, the sooner the engine gets up to operating temp and the shorter time a richer mix is needed.

 

I've noticed a little better mileage lately. I've also started running Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel to see if that helps. I've read about people reporting 3 to 4 MPG better. We'll see. My plan is to run 10 tanks and see if I'm getting anything better than the 17.5 MPG average I usually get. I'll post my results when I'm done.

 

you keep logs!! I never really paid attention other then it takes an extra two dollars to fill up

 

I am noticing about 2 more miles to the gallon, but I also swiched to mid grade (89 octane) on account hi test (91 octane) is too much.
Heck, even mid grade is too much.

I think the 89 octane is burning better and more complete than the 91, so that is part of why I am getting better mileage now.

 

I just got 175 miles on the first half tank today! That's way over 300 miles for one tank If that keeps up! I was runing on 1/2 92 and the other half 87.

 

I must be getting old.
I forgot to add in the above post that I have kept a gas consumpstion/mileage log since buying the 4Runner October of '98.

Every fill-up I write down the # of gallons, the date, the $$$, miles between fill-ups, and the MPG.

 

LOL, I agree, I had log of every tank I put in my rig until some dopes stole my stereo and everything in the pocket below it! Oh well. Here in Oregon they make us burn a winter blend of gas with more ethenal in it. Kills my gas milage but I guess it saves our air quality

I've noticed much better milage on my camping trip over the weekend so maybe they have switched back for the season!

 

I went from about 265 to 275 miles with my last two tankfuls so I have been happier.

 

Yah, I deffinitly noticed better mileage, starting about 2-3 weeks ago. I was getting around 200, now I get around 240-260, but Gas costs a lot more out here too.

Ouch,that mileage makes the 2nd gen owners not feel so bad.

Are you SC'd or something cause I drive my truck pretty hard and the least miles I've seen from a tank is just under 245 and that was with some wheelin' involved.

 

when i had the same size tires on to compare, i knew exactly when they switched. i went from getting about 190 per tank to about 230

 

When My Runner was stock I got 250-300 miles, but now that I have a Yakima roof rack system with bike attachements and 265/75/16's I get worst mileage. Thos two things combined to about 15% -20% loss in fuel efficiency.

 

This makes sense, I was getting 260 miles on a tank during the winter and just a few weeks ago noticed I was getting close to 300 miles.
