Yea, I have noticed that the stock tires on my truck seem to be bigger than everyone elses. I'm not even happy with that. I would like to do a small lift and get a set of 285's under the rig. My tax refund might allow me to do just that.

H2's come with 35s
i hate those #$@!ing things!! for 50,000 you could get a new toyota and make it way more capabale offroad than one of those. and you'd still have 20,000 left over. for the luxury interior of course. gotta have that in a offroad vehicle.

Runner tires can be optioned at ~31"

Same as Suburbans, Tahoes, Durangoes, Dakotas, Xterras, Rubicons, Silverados.

No Ford stats committed to memory, sorry.

Dodge Ram's have small tires too.

I have a friend with a Dodge Ram, and the tires are 31" tall. It is measure in a metric size, but they are about 9.5" wide. I got a lift and tires for my 5-lug tacoma, and I have 31's with a width of 10.5". His tires are bald too. Did I mention his is 4wd. Unless he actually in 4wd, my little 5-lug could run circles around his truck off-road.

I am not really a fan of the H2 either, then again I'm not really a fan of anything made by GM.

Then you have never wheeled with someone in a locked 80 series... Question in point.. spent a Saturday wheeling around here, (search 4x4 wire for the front end smashed photos) I worked hard, had to be winched.. trucks working alot harder and with better setups had trouble making it... some winched.. A stock 80 with Michelen LTX's (granted, factory locked) did not so much as slip a tire thru it...

Ask Todd from the Yanke Toys who drives a 80 on 35's how "not made for off road it is"

The 100 series is the end of the Land Cruiser.. not the 80..
BTW, the 100 series went to IFS

The new land cruisers (by new I mean like anything past the old station wagon ones) aren't really for offroad, yes they are capable, maybe more capable stock than a 4runner (w/ lockers and solid axles), but that's not really what they are for. They cost and weight too much to be a trail rig for most people. I got my 4runner because it's the only offroad-capable SUV (in my opinion) Jeeps are probably good/better offroad, but they are trendy (ever third college student in my town has a bright red wrangler w/ smitty built bumpers) and honestly I don't think they are as good a vehicle. There's really no SUV that can compare to the all around goodness of a 4runner, I'm sure people on jeep forums or mitsu forums or ford forums would disagree but on the trail I think toyota reliability speaks for itself. it may not get you over the biggest boulder, but it will get you home.

Well - I don't think it matters what size tires come on the H2 as most of the ones I have seen have their nerf bars/running boards attached which gives them as much clearance as my accord

Also, I have mostly seen them driven by women or men or are over compensating

Thumbs down H2's

H2's are nice, IMHO, BUT...
I went to my Mom's over the XMAS Holiday in Annapolis, MD. She lives in one of those condo villages where her neighbors are literally on top of her!! Anyway, a "cool" guy that lives next to her brings home a new H2...:WTF:
A new H2 in the middle of the D.C./Baltimore Metro area...c'mon!
Talk about mid-life crisis!!!

Tell me about it. We have a bunch of those rich 40-60 year old cooks with those things here in houston, it's like a bunch of "Ken Lays" sporting around in an H2 that you know will never see a dirt road or even have 4wd engaged. they are going to be trashed by lack of proper use.

well, it seems like there is much more of a market for a luxury vehicle than for something with amazing offroad capability. appearently H2's have already out-sold the original hummer.

i guess there are just a lot more people out there looking for luxury than there are people like us who like to offroad. all companies seem to be making things more luxury. even toyota. look at the 2003 4runner. i mean its a great vehicle, but to me it seems like they designed it to fit in with all those other new SUVs-designed much more for comfort than preformance off the road.

my .02.. or .03...

I asked about that and they told me thats so that when you load them up they will squat over the tires and not rub when carrying huge loads.

I don't know but I have that as my background on the work computer. I my goal is to make my runner look as much like it as possible, minus the solid front axle of course, I'll deal with the IFS until I find a nice land cruiser like the same year as that one to buy and fix up. here's mine before I took the steps off. still got lots of things on the shopping list but I have to space everything out since I am married.

My 4Runner - before the latest mods
