Unhappy Any advice?....please

First off I'd like to say hi to everyone in the forum. about me: basically new here(havent posted before), avid taco lover, graphic artist, and new dad. I've been reading posts for about a year here, and you guys know your toys.
Wondering if you guys can help? I own a 02 double cab taco, 3.4L 4wd. (my third toy). Ive had no problems with it so far except a knocking noise on startup, has only happened a handful of times, when its dead cold and will knock for 3-5 seconds. It has almost 40,000 miles on it and i change the oil religously.
Any ideas? I changed to mobil1 2 oil changes ago, Like I said doesnt do it often but it did it twice yesterday (temp was hovering around -2 and 5 degrees here in the mountains of PA).
Dont want to start mods and have my truck die at 50,000 miles.

thanks...I'm... confused

Welcome to the boards!

First off...any new memeber should be REQUIRED to post pics of their rigs, we LOVE pics here! You could probably tell that in the year you've been cruisin around on here.

Second...I can assure you that just a knock in the engine will not warrant your Yota dieing at 50k...its Toyota man, maybe at 550k it will die, but not 50!

Other than that I have no clue about the knocking, my '95 4R knocks occasionally at or around 3k on the tach but then and only then and usually when its cold. Maybe if somebody has a fix for you it will work for me...we'll see.

Either way, welcome aboard!

Fink

Welcome to Yotatech.com

Your knocking sound sounds like the oil isn't getting moved around because it's bitterly cold or ...

The fuel injectors make tapping sounds too.

I think it's just the oil not getting to the top end of the engine.

Suggest getting a block heater. It's something that you can order from the your local Toyota dealer (also called Toyota stealer because of high prices charged to consumers).

Good luck!

Yeah the cold can affect you in that way, What is the density of your oil? In summer I will run 20-50... Winter I run 10-30, even 5-30. The thinner your oil, the better for cold starts and cold running.
