another intake question
After hearing alot of the negative things about the K&N FIPK kits, I've decided to start looking into other options. Problem is that I bought the 4runner with the FIPK so I don't have any of the stock intake. So I'm either considering an airaid or downey intake system, or getting a stock airbox with an airaid MIT (modular intake tube) and an amsoil filter.
So my question is... will an airaid or downey intake system perform the same as the K&N since they are all oiled gauze filters (at least i think they all are)? or would I be better off with the stock airbox and an amsoil filter? also, has anybody tried or had any experiences with the airaid or downey intake systems?
thanks everyone

Rick,
If you blot out the excess oil you won't run into that CEL problem. Or at least you shouldn't...
Just sandwich the filter between 6 paper towel sheets (3 each side), put a board on top, and kneel on top of it - moving around to squeeze uniformly. Done this each time I cleaned mine and have had no problems

Check out the "Tech Write Up" section under performance and you will find it. There is also a search feature at the top of the screen. And no, it is not applicable to a 1st gen. Oh, and welcome to the board.

Is anyone using the Airaid modular intake tube? I figured someone may because it gets rid of the intake silencer plus the flexible part if the tube.
I saw it for $80 for my '02, Kinda steep if you can just do the ISR mod, but it looks like it would look so much cleaner with the MIT and you can always pop in the stock tube if you decide to sell.
It claims as much as 400 CFM increases.
It is on www.performanceproducts.com for $84.99 for my '02.

It is cleaner though, I agree with you on that point.
