Hey y'all....

I flushing the auto tranny fluid on my '92 V6 and was wondering if anyone has tried the Amsoil 12 step fluid flush technic listed on their site (http://www.amsoil.com/faqs/faq8.aspx). Does it work well? And on our trucks, is it as straight forward as they have it listed or are there additional steps needed to be taken? I'm figuring I'll disconnect the cooler lines at the radiator after I change the fluid in the pan and do the flush from those cooler lines. Any info or experience is much appreciated.

I've used the Amsoil method on several vehicles with no problems. You will have to shut down the engine several times to fill the pan. There in is no way to keep up with the pump by pouring fluid down the dipstick tube.

On my 2001, the return from the radiator cooler was the drivers side. But follow your coolant lines from the transmission. The line exiting the front is the output.

 

I followed the 'Amsoil' tranny flush on my 3rd gen. two years ago. While a bit messy, it worked flawlessly and I've experienced no problems in nearly 30K. I should be able to address the mess better next round since I know exactly what I'm in for. I can't speak directly about your 2nd gen, but I can't think of a reason why it would be any different.

You should only disconnect ONE cooler line, NOT BOTH. Disconnecting the return line allows the pump to push the old fluid out before in re-enters to the tranny pan (which is where you'll be pouring the fresh synthetic via the tranny dipstick).
