Talking Almost Done With My Groc. Getter, Time For Ford

Ok before you guys let me have it, read my reasons:
Reason #1
List Of Broken Parts: Steering Rack, Inner TieRods, Outer TieRods, Power Steering Pump, Boots, 5 Drive Axles, Front Differential Seals x2, Front Diff Dust Covers x2, Radiator Busted, Radiator Hole x2, Altinator, Battery, Airbox Cover, Fan Clutch, Power Steering, Seal in Master Cylinder, Radiator Cap, Bent trac. bar, ABS sensors, bent right lower control arm, lumbar adjuster, Power Antenna, fan shroud, Sway bar bushings, Split Radator intake Hose
Reason #2
I want to try to make my 4Runner last and I want to re-paint it, put new carpet in and am tired of replacing or fixing parts. There is little left for me to do to the $Runner. The Runner is awesome on the trail, snow and Rocks, but I fear breakage when I enter the NC mud and a front locker will only worsen my delemia. I have a 69 halfcab Bronco in a million peices and the money I am saving to fix it goes to the runner for fixing.
Solution
Use the runner as a road vehicle and minor trail riding and to tow trailers and my Bronco
Use the Bronco as a mudder, put 5.5 inch lift w 2 inch bodylift, (plenty of room to fit 42 or 44 inch Swampers)

Ok here is another one on 37x13 boggers. I am thinking about putting a FJ40 dash inside to keep it kinda with the toyota thing.

I like those old Bronco's.

Fix up the Bronco and beat the crap out of it off-road. Then use the 4Runner to tow it home.

I rode in a stock one, down a rough, boulder strewn trail in CO back in the 70's. We were fishing at a beaver dam, then it started to rain. The trail was getting slick, so the driver gunned it and hit the boulders HARD. We were bouncing all over the back. Nothing on the truck broke.

Let's just say that he was driving it a lot harder than I drive my runner.

I love the old Broncos. Actually, I like older Ford trucks in general. They had a rough patch in the mid 80s-early 90s, but they seem to be improving. Several of my friends have the F250s and F350s, they seem to be pretty nice vehicles.

The fun part with old Ford's is how much is available for the motor.

I have an old F-150 with the 351W and a four barrel.

I already have a nice new short motor, GT-40 heads and an Edelbrock manifold and mild cam sat on an engine stand ready to go in when this one (215,000 miles) finally quits....

Set of nice headers to go with the GT-40 heads and we are going to have a evry strong motor for the next 215,000.

No ECU's, no OBD-II, no trouble codes, no fuel injection....

Just good ole fashion 4 barrel with a manual choke and 7 mpg

I don't know much about those old broncos, but I suspect they aren't exactly light weight vehicles. Do you really think the 4runner would be able to tow the bronco?

Barely IMO. Tow capacity of a 3rd Gen 3.4L is 5k lbs. I doubt a Bronco would come in much under that given that a 4Runner is over 4k lbs and is smaller. I could be wrong though.

Hopefully I will be making a trailer (use old single-wide moble home) or a tow dolly. The Runner shouldn't have any problems. My brother toated a Mastercraft behind his 2nd Gen 4runner in the NC/TN mountains everytime he wanted to wakeboard.

Oh good, want to give me your Rockcrawlers and elocker!!

Na, that sounds like a good plan. You just have put so much into that runner! and to turn it into a tow vehicle... You could sell some parts and get some HD coils for the rear and an S/C and you could tow it no prob. Then you'd have an S/C!

man you can tow anything with just about anything.

have you ever seen that guy tow a greyhound bus with his beard -- WTF or world strongest man tow that heavy a$$ $h!t.

as long as you dont mind holding up traffic (damn i hate those guys -- unless its me ) then who cares how weak (oops i said weak and 4runner in the same sentence) your runner tows aslong as you get to where you are going

i'll tell you one thing i would rather tow my cruiser with my mom's m-roadster then drive it down the road very far -- trail only -- i would get arrested b/c the police would think i was on drugs for swerving all over

my roommate towed his durango from wilmington, nc to boone, nc (6 hrs driving fast as hell) in an older v6 fj80.

the main concern about towing a larger vehicle is the stoppin power/trailer drift (yea i thought we were gonna wreck at 80 mph)/and of course accelation -- just take it slow and at all those

Your definately going to want an sc if your not going to regear with 33s and towing that monster... Put them on ebay! Someone will want them. I already ahve half the stuff your selling, so I think i'll pass on that offer But thanks for giving me the offer first.
