alarm instal

with all this talk about trucks being stolen, i am a bit starting to get worried now about my truck... where can i mount the alarm so a theif cant mess with it? i was thinking maybe in a custom enclosure under the hood and then also have keyed hood locks, that will make things a little more difficult.. i know if a theif wants it bad enough they will get it... but soon i will have my daughters baby seat in there, and that will be very tempting as well, also i will soon ahve a toolbox in the bed as i need the carbo space, both for work and jsut general stuff.... with my duaghter in the front seat, i will only have room on the floor for her diaper bag, but not any of the stuff i need to carry in my truck.... also plan on putting a 140 DB siren under the dash.... thats enough to hurt someone enough that they wouldnt even want to try to mess with it... with another under the hood.... also will probably rig something up so my aux lights flash.. and they are very bright!

Most alarm installers put it right under the dash just above the driver's knees but I found that this location is just too easy and common to get at. The next easiest place is in the center of the dash behind the HVAC and radio. Now again if a theif wants to get YOUR car, there is really nowhere you could put it that really prevents a professional from disabling it (remember that even if I can't get at the brain, if I know where the leads go I can disable it that way instead). The idea here is to make it harder and more time consuming to disable the alarm and to force the theif to just move on to another car.

Remember you don't need to outrun the bear, you just need to outrun the guy next to you.

....I would also wrap every wire in black electrical tape which makes it that much tougher and time consuming to see any of the wiring (and where you tapped in for the alarm).

It sounds like you got it handled for the install. It would be cool to extend the alarm system to your tool box making it like a third door.
I am looking into upgrading the audiovox alarm that came on the 4runner. I am surprised with all the options and sensivity of what you can get.
I was reminded that I should somehow make it obvious that I have an alarm; plusing light, window stickers etc. As you know it's part of the "leave it alone" message.
