Aftermarket gauge faceplates...
How difficult are these to install? Professional installation is "highly recommended" by some vendors. Anybody have experience with the Procarparts kits?
Is there anything '96 and '97 owners can do to cover up the "PRNDL" on the faceplate, as we don't have these?

I have the 6color white face gauges from procarparts inmy 98 for about a year now. The install was very easy and the gauges slipped over the needles without needing to remove them (some other gauges require this like the NR white face gauges).
Not sure about the 96/97 install, should be roughly the same. Make sure you get the correct set of gauges for your car.
Good luck!

I know that Joey(UKMeyers),
did a writeup on here in the tech section about intalling these in his 2nd gen.
Joey(UK),
if you read this, what was the brand of the gauges you installed? I'm thinking of getting some off of Ebay and was just wondering what the brand was that you won. I tried PM'ing you but it said your inbox was full.

I know exactly what your talking about man. I have a 96' Runner and bought the reerse indiglo gauges from Procarparts. It sucks that they only have the template for the 98' and the PRNDL is right there in the middle. I just installed mine and didn't really care about those things not woring there's not much else you can do. 96 & 97's have the 1000xRPM thing down there and so when you instlal them that shows through the slots for the PRNDL, so if you just take a little skinny peice of black electrical tape and cover it up on the original faces b4 you instlll the new ones you don't have to worry about that coming through.
There are a few other things I can tell ya about the gauges and the install if you would like. It's just alot to type so I answered your first question. If ya ot any others just ask I would be happy to help.

Well hmm, now I'm kinda glad I didn't get a set of those off ebay last night... I drive a 97 5-spd, so that auto gear indication would look odd for sure.
edit: wtf was I typing before... note to self, stop twt (typing while tired)! Anyway after re-reading this, I may try them after all. If the tape is hidden, and ultimately keeps it from showing the indications from the auto stuff, that'll be fine. Now to recheck ebay...

Not sure if they make them or just distribute them. I think they may make them though cuz a buddy got some reverse indiglo's off ebay for his Honda Ricer and they were from the same company. All the install instuctions had their name on them too.
Good luck you guys with this mod. I get tons of compliments on my gauges. Email me if you have any install questions
