I know that this topic has been touched on in other posts (which I have read), but wanted to troll for any new answers, pics, etc.

What aftermarket exhaust systems do Yota' members have on their 2003 Runners and how would you rate the quality,install, fit & finish, sound, etc.?

I am leaning toward the Borla, but it just seems overpriced. I have had good luck with Flowmaster on other trucks, anyone have this setup?

Pics, sounds files (!!!) or information greatly apprecaited.

Why dont you just save $200 and have a custom system made?

As mentioned, going to a good custom exhaust shop and getting a setup made will save you $$$.

Chances are you have big enough tubing already on your rig, and you would only need to change out the muffler for a much meaner sound.

If you know how to get to the Valley Drive-ins that are just North of Auburn, Stan's Headers is there right across from the theaters, and he is the exhaust guru.

He built my Magnaflow system for me.

 

Go custom, definitely a lot cheaper...I had it done with a magnaflow muffler and split pipe out the rear, with the V8 it sounds awesome, very throaty...here are the pics from a previous post

At this time I dont have sound clips for you...after all was said and done it cost me around $300

 

Been thinking about the Flowmaster as well for my 2003. Keep us posted and vice versa if I get one before you do.

 

I had a Flowmaster 70 Series on my last truck (not a 4Runner) and was very pleased with it. Just the right amount of DEEP V8 burble at idle and generally quiet driving until you stepped hard on the gas. I am thinking sound wise it would be a good match to the V8 Runner, keeping things quiet on the highway and loud only when you want to hear it like hard acceleration.

That said, I am not sure what to go with yet. Borla is crazy expensive for what you get, *but* they are the only ones I have found that factory build their systems to match your truck, right down to factory hangers, etc. Plus side exit duals may not look as cool, but it's actually better placement if you take your rig offroad.

One of my concerns with custom systems is that the work to get them on can be sloppy (even by the best installers). Ever seen what under coating looks like after a blow torch has melted it to nothing?

 

My last truck (88 4Runner) I had a Flowmaster installed, new pipe & muffler installed for $250. I'm thinking that concidering our trucks are so new we wouldn't have to have have new pipes made and just have the stock muffler cut out and the Flowmaster welded in it's place and save $$$$. Gonna have to do some more research on this.

I know what you mean by Borla's prices! Unless a sack of money falls out of the sky and lands at my feet I won't be going that route.

 

I got a muffler, a tip and installation on my 98 for $105 using stock piping. I figure, until I get an s/c, duals are completely for looks. Plus you loose some low end (not as relivent to you V8s since you have so much more of it) but I'm pleased. I'm gonna just get a whole new system when I get an S/C and run duals b/c by then I'll have my tire mounted on the roof and I won't have a problem with pluming.
