'99 headlight Install on '98
#21
I lucked out and got my 99+ headlights for $29 each at the JY. They never have 3rd gens there. This one was a cash for clunker. They throw a much beter beam pattern. The sides of the road are lit up much better. A must have here in the Hill Country of Texas where deer wait for the precise moment to leap in front of you.

another great Ritzy writeup and most helpful for the details on the grille work too. Adding the pics is sure helpful and thanks for keeping your hosting account rolling so we can see them.
I am noticing what appears to be a pin switch near the hood front edge rubber washer- with the dual washers and the one tucked under the fender tab-what's up with that ?
you got me curious

Well Ron really very simple ... That is a door switch from a '93 4runner that I used in my hood lighting mod. the only way I could seem to get it to work correctly with the correct height was to shim it with the washers and it is solid now after two years on the job. Still working perfector! Sorry for th elate response, just now saw it! Search the forums and I have the engine bay light mod written up somewhere

Thanks for the post. I used it to swap out the old, broken lenses on my 1997 for fresh TYC replacements off ebay. Everything went very smoothly with the exception of a few broken grill clips. (Fortunately, I had a box of spares in the shop.) The TYC replacements seem to be top notch, and a pair can be purchased for under $100 with brackets and bulbs.
Note: I did have to adjust the reflectors a bit. I did this with the handle of a screwdriver. Not a major issue.

As always glad you were able to use my write up to replace your headlights, but as was stated previously the eBay aftermarket lights can be hit or miss. I was able to get both OEM headlights, bulbs, and boots for around $75. I just really depends on the wrecking yard and what they want for the units. I prefer OEM as you KNOW they will work! Thanks again!

revive a thread
Came back across this while searching for the "below the headlight trim piece" I believe is officially called a Filler Panel.
Wondered if anyone out there had found something constructive to mod that piece out with?
Perhaps like some LED's for Daytime Running Lights or other auxiliary lighting.
