blair1,
Did you clear the codes in the ECM after you changed the parts before starting the rig?
Maybe try clearing the codes again to see if that helps any.

Were you able to rectify this? I'm having the same issue on my SC'd 96. Need info on where the KS harness connects once it leaves the engine if anyone can help. Pic's worth 1000 words!

Knock sensor is located under the intake and has about a 12 inch lead coming off of it that plugs into the main wiring harness. U can't acces anything without removing the inatake. Worst part of all is what the problem actually ended up being. It was a blown head gasket. No antifreeze in oil, no leaking antifreeze, not lacking power. Very weird but it was a blown HG.

I started getting P0330 a month ago, so I parked the 4Runner in the garage and started tearing it down for lots of maintenance: timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, etc.
Note that my 4runner is supercharged. I always got got P0330...I use a Scangauge, so I could clear it immediately each time, and even with clearing it probably 50 times in 4 days....it was always P0330. Which makes me think it's for sure that one sensor. I'm going to replace both sensors and the wiring harness will it's all apart, but wasn't sure if they are different part numbers for the sensors??
For those that replaced them both, did you use the same PN for both? Or two different ones?

Hey can I rehash this thread?
Im going to be doing the knock sensors and wiring on my 2000 and I'm curious what parts people are buying. Ive done a little research and prices seem to be all over the place with the knock sensors. Ive seen from 25.00 to 250.00. Any thoughts? Places to buy? Also what about the top end gasket set? I do have a TRD Super Charger installed and Im curious what gaskets I should be looking at buying. It came with the SC installed and I have never had it off since Ive owned it.
Thanks in advance
Curt

Buy both knock sensors, and the knock sensor wire harness!
If you only replace one sensor, and the other knock sensor fails, it's not worth the time to tear it down twice to repair it again, when you already had it apart the first time.
The wire harness gets brittle from the heat & cold cycles it endures, so it makes sense to just put a brand new one in while you have it apart.
Go with the Toyota knock sensors and harness. I got my gaskets from Toyota as well for the intake and valve covers.
Just browse online Toyota dealers to find the best pricing for the parts that you need from them.

So just for kicks I went by one of my local shops here in Seattle to get a quote for replacing these two knock sensors.
$1700.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $900.00 of that is the two sensors and the harness pigtail. They only buy OEM apparently....... and add 100% mark up.
So I called Toyota and they want $252.00 per sensor, and $12.00 for the wiring.
I got this part number from another 4Runner forum for the sensor that someone had used with positive results: KS81T. Amazon has them for 90.00 but Im not keen on the two reviews. One is positive and one is negative. My gut instinct would lead me straight to the negative review. Anyone here used this particular sensor or have another part number you can point me too?
Also what have other people done with all this stuff taken off?

I just got a 97 4Runner SR5 3.4 5 speed lifted 4x4. The guy I just got it from just installed brand new knock sensors, y harness, gaskets, etc, from a kit he bought from an auto parts house in December. I started driving it to work and it started popping both knock sensor codes. I asked him if he replaced the y harness as well, and he sent me a photo of the parts he bought and a short video of them being installed. I told him it's doing it probably because he bought aftermarket crap.
It's throwing both knock sensor codes, and I'm wondering which way to go. Toyota online parts is showing each knock sensor at $278+ which is just total BS. I still have the Toyota knock sensors he gave me and he did say they checked out to be fine, so I guess I test them and see what's what with this thing.

I replaced both sensors and the harness on my daughter's 97 and it changed nothing. Turned out that both my new "OEM" sensors were counterfeit. Bought from an eBay seller with 100% positive feedback. I got a refund and took two used sensors off my spare engine. Problem solved. I couldn't bring myself to pay what the dealer wanted.

The damn parts house sold him Intermotor KS159 knock sensors that are the Nippodenso style KS. The OEM knock sensors he gave me are Matsu˟˟˟˟ta style and they both test good for a continuity check for OL. I just need to be able to test them for AC voltage next.

A lot of the time, non OEM knock sensors will throw the codes for knock sensors, even if they're brand new and working perfectly, to all indications. Just happened to me. New, non-OEM sensors, got the codes. Replace with OEM sensors, codes clear, no further trouble.
Just my recent experience.

I brought my spare 3.4 motor down from my family's shop on the mtn and put it up against the wall in my shop. I noticed that I left the OEM Toyota knock sensors sitting on the intake. So I checked them out and they tested good (still looked brand new), and I installed a brand new OEM Toyota KS harness.
Before I couldn't go over 2,500 rpm without it tripping the CEL for both KS codes. I went out on the highway and revved it up to 4,500 rpm a couple times then shifted and so far no CEL yet (fingers crossed).
