99 4runner, 3rz oil leak

hello everyone.
ive got a 1999 4runner with a decent oil leak. it leaks about a half qt a week. as far as i can tell, its leaking from the front facing part of the 90 degree deal that holds the oil filter (is there a name for this?). thats where it seems to be starting, and it runs down to the pan, lines, and skid plate. its not a substantial leak so im going to wait until my next oil change and steam clean the whole area prior to tearing into it. is there a gasket that goes between the block and this adapter? how should i go about fixing it? pretty common? thanks guys, pics are coming very soon.

Just use some dealybop dohicky to fix the seal majig.

Sorta tough to tell without a picture, exactly what you are referencing there

However, assuming you are talking about oil filter adapter housing, yes there is a seal that goes between that and the block. Could the oil be from changing the filter? Every time I remove the filter on any of my cars I make a giant mess from oil running down all over the engine.

no, theres a spot where the oil is "washing" the block, moving dirt from the area. pics are uploading to photobucket and will be posted as soon as this connection allows. do you guys have a sealer or # for a gasket, becasue autozone has no idea what im talking about (no suprise)

Toyota will know what you need. Contact your local dealer, or just go in there and look at their microfiche of the parts layout.

Definitely looks like you need an oil filter mount/adaptor to block gasket, should be cheap from the dealership.

Having had 2 3rz Tacomas and 1 3rz 4Runner I will weigh in. The 4Runner is a little different then the Tacoma in that they have an oil cooler that the filter screws into. On the Tacoma the oil filter housing is just a flat piece of metal, on the 4Runner it is a little bigger and has coolant lines running through it to cool the oil as it enters and leaves the filter element. I imagine you could replace that part, but first I would check 2 common things. First make sure that the last time the oil was changed the old gasket didn't get left on, double gaskets can cause leaks. Second make sure you are putting a light coating of oil on the gasket before installing the filter.

How to remove bracket?

I have the same leak, I think. Do you need a pnuematic wrench to remove the bracket? My ratchet will not move on the sucker.
