Looking at buying a Tacoma and came across one. Its a 98 with the 2.7, the ad said the motor was rebuilt, but the check engine light comes on and off because of a vacuum leak. Could this be a major problem/what are the solutions? thanks

 

You might want to pull the codes and see just what your dealing with.

What part of the world does the truck live in does it see winter chemicals ??

If so what is the frame and the rest look like If your new to Tacoma`s you might not know of the frame issue

 

Definitely no problem with rust here in the southwest. Also could a bad egr value cause the check engine light to come on and off due to vacuum leak?

EGR valves rarely fail, but are routinely blamed and replaced without proper troubleshooting. It is only one of many components of an EGR system.

Get the code(s) read before blindly replacing stuff.
