All,

I have 1997 3.4L and have had the (2) resonators and the (1) J-tube sealed up for a month or so now (JB Welded each of them up smooth).

I have rerouted all the vac. lines and all is working well (sweet mod...).

My question is, is it advantageous to find a replacement intake pipe to go from TB to MAF? Any suggestions on doing this *easily* for a 96-98?

Any ideas or should I just stay with the poor man's JB Weld job?

Hey CB,

I'm glad the mod is working out for you.

If you read the 2nd page of my article, you would see that the first suggestion I gave for the 96-98 trucks was to use the tubing for the 99-02 trucks. In case you missed it the first time around, go have a look.

Yes, now that you mention it, that does sound familiar now. I'll look around for that. Any ideas for home-made type stuff or is it too much of a pain in the a%* to do?

I was hoping to hit the home depot and do something. You know of any places to get used parts like the intake you suggest?

Hey CB,

Personally, I wouldn't want to dick around with anything other than the 99-02 OEM hoses. Try Nix99. They are the ones that had the parts for the price I mentioned in the article.

Is anyone ambitious enough to mass-produce the pipe? That is the hardest part to get and would probably sell like hot cakes (and what the he** does "sell like hot cakes" mean anyway? :rolleyes: ). I'll bet there would be a decent demand.

 

I'd buy one if someone is selling. I was on that site trying to find the newer model hoses, but no luck yet. Dr. Z., did you send them a parts request to get the pricing?

I've been asked this several times already. The demand does not equal the risk of me spending hundreds of dollars making pipes and buying materials only to have them sit in my house collecting dust because people don't want them any more. Also, I'd want a profit rather than break even or god forbid lose money doing this, which sort of defeats the purpose of the cheap and easy mod attitude I took when designing it.

If I were going to offer a kit or kits, they'd have to be at least $50 plus shipping just for the Pipe and a Tee fitting. If the 99-02 hoses were included for the 96-98 trucks, the kits would end up being over $100. Do you see how this takes some of the cost effectiveness out of this mod?

Not trying to be difficult, but I just can't do it.

I did not mean you in particular to make the intake pipes. In the past, you made it very clear you did not want to mess with this which is fine.

However, what was meant was that if someone new to the forum who say:
1. works in a metal shop
2. works in an exhaust shop
3. etc.

that they might have an interest in doing it to do it if they had the supplies, the drive to do it, and could do it cheaply to make a profit and make it worthwhile.
To ask the question again for potential new eyes to read does not seem to be a bad thing in my opinion anyway.
