96 3.4 stalling at redlight...transmission?

I know there are lots of post out there on stalling, however none addressed my concern. Ok, here's the deal. today i was driving and while on my way home my runner stalled at a redlight. Great, I thought to myself, I've seen post about this. Anyways I started up again no problem, but an the next stoplight, which cycled twice for some reason, I stalled twice. go figure. Well each time i stalled i noticed the idle get rought and what felt like a jerk from the transmission. So at the next stoplight idecided to try something. Well when I felt the idle take a big drop and felt like it did on the verge of stalling i shifted into nuetral. To my surprise, my runner regained composure and did not stall. I did this at least 2 more times before i got home and i got home with no stalls but a lot of shifting into nuetral at stoplights. So, do you think it could be the transission? Has anyone experience the stalling in the same manner?

Also, I had timinge belt, water pump, spark plugs, plug wires, pcv valve, fuel filter, and all 6 fuels injector sent out for complete servicing do to a cel p304 problem. I also changed the air filter, and oil all changed all about 2 months ago. I have over 175K and have owned the runner for about a year and a half and this is the first time this has happened. I also just had the rear suspension recall performed about a month ago (10 years later and I get a free new rear suspension). Anyway all help is areciated. Thanks in advance.

i had a similar problem with my honda accord (thought it never stalled, it nearly did)

might be a bad tank of gas, that was my problem. i always drive with my foot hovering the brake, so i just learned to hold the brake and put a little gas and that saved me through that tank.

you could have another problem, but that was my solution to mine (just ran on that tank of gas till it was through, and when i refilled, i was fine.)

good luck.

Idle Air Control (IAC). Does it stall right after you red line it also?

i've never redlined it. driving around 40-50mph max before coming to redlight, and after about 20-30 sec or so at the light it stalls. like i said, just started today. never happened before in the year and a half of owning it.

I believe those were only for 2wd runners. Something about stability.

Check TPS problems my bet is on that. best way to know if your tps is bad is check the voltage alsa at park you should be running about 700-850 RPMs i believe. you may or may not get a check engine light right away and even if you do it may disappear for a while and then come back. hey arent eally that expensive. Its usulally about 40 bucks. check out toyotaparts4u they have the best prices and service around IMO.

Your tourque converter is messed up. Unfortunately, this is very expensive to repair. Here's a link from TTORA that applies to your Runner.

I have no idea where to get your tranny rebuilt, sorry.

park=750 park=800

well i got my runner back yesterday from a transmission shop. of course they couldn't duplicate the problem, and transmission was functioning properly. well i guess because it was 110 degrees that day my runner must have had a heat stroke or something. lucky for me the shop did a no charge for me.

that's good and all, but you might want to consider getting a second opinion on this. Do you still have to put your tranny in neutral at stoplights?

that's the thing, everything is working the way it supposed to work. i have no idea what was wrong that day, but it hasn't happened since, knock on wood. i tried to get it to happen again but can't. i guess i'll have to wait for the next 110+degree day.
