Yes, the spacer does overhang the ball joint base. There is also a gap in the spacer. I think this is so stuff will not get stuck in the spacer and on top of the BJ.

The pic at the beginning is of the prototypes. The final version is slimmer and while retaining the same profile as those pictured, follow the perimiter of the ball joint very closely.
