It's looking like the issue is relating to where that tire bulge lies. That can change from tire to tire and would explain why it's hard to pin down what is causing the problem. What brand/size is that tire?

You can take a little meat of the end of the arm too in order to help clearance.

As for tire fitment, you can put a 33X12.5 on a stock rim, but it's not recommened. It will wear out the middle of the tire quick if I understand correctly. It's one of those "you shouldn't do's" that we wheelers might do if say were aren't running on the street a lot or just plain don't care if the tires wear out quick. (like running a welded diff)

It's likely you can just trim the end of the arm and maybe a .25" spacer if you rub at all. You might not need the spacer too. I'd say see if it fits unless you want new rims anyway. Which is totally Ok, I kinda did that old..darn.. my stock rims won't fit.. well... guess I just gotta get new ones. Way back when.

So, those of us with stock rims, are we hosed? I don't want new rims, and I don't want to buy 4 spacers. I have the stock al. rims with 31x10.5 :pat:

You are not hosed. You have a few options. First, you only need two spacers, not four. You can file the lip on the a-arm. Or, your tires might not have this problem as others with stock rims are Ok with 31X10.5's.

The best I can tell, this problem seems to follow the tires as some work and some don't.

I would love to compile a list of those with problems and those without.

Well, since I am about 3/4 the way done with one side, 14 hour days suck, I guess I am about to find out! How much space is enough between the upper arm and the tire? Who sells spacers if I do need them? Sorry if I was panicking---it has been a rough week.

I have purchased wheel spacers in the past from my local auto parts store. I'd say save the gas/time and call 'em. I'd be surprised if most if not all of your local stores carried them.

I am smiling! I was worried about nothing! I got the driver's side done tonight. No rubbing at all! Stock aluminum rims with 31x10.50 BFG AT/KO. It was actually pretty easy. It isn't a great picture but here it is!

Let's hope I still have the space after I get it aligned.

So this might be a little off subject but it does pertain to the spacers so I'm gonna throw it in here. I've got my spacers and cruiser coils are on the way. I plan on eventually putting some 33x 12.50s on (with the help of a BL I think) which means getting new rims (still on stock with 31s right now).
I was needing some help with some decision making: What size rims should I go with 15x8, 15x10 and any CHEAP suggestions? How crazy would my runner look if I went ahead and installed the cruiser coils (short side) and spacers, sticking with the 31s until winter?

Thanks
-Shawn

well i just went to Les Schwab, and saw that they had the rock crawler type steel wheels for $40 each so i got those. stupid mounting and balancing!!!!! *shakes his fist*

these are pretty much what they look like.

i just went with 15x8's those should work perfectly fine. i'm running my 31x10.5's on them right now and they'll work perfectly fine with 33x12.5's thats what im planning on doing, hopefully by the end of summer. i still don't know if i'll need a body lift, we'll see once i ge my bj spacers on.

as for the coils, i just bought a set of coils, short and long side. there was about a half inch difference between the two. there really isn't any noticable difference in height, from side to side. if you measure, yes there is a difference but barely. (i'll just put all my tools on that side!) once i get my bj spacers on i'll be making a thread with lots of pics and a few numbers, so don't worry. (forgot to take before measurments and pics :pat: i guess i was just too excited to get them in!)

oh and feel free to messege me if you have any questions!

Basically I posted in the classified section of any off-road forum I could find. Before that I called around to some junkyards, but didn't have any luck that way. Try www.ih8mud.com, I think that's where I ended up finding mine. I'm not at home now, but tomorrow I'll check my favorites and let you know of any other forums.
