Which one will be better results wise for a swap in a 2nd gen 4runner. I've searched on this before with little to no luck. I know the 7mgte is a lot cheaper and a little bit easier to get, and sort of what I was leaning towards, but I'd like to hear the opinions of the big dogs before I make my decision.A few other questions I have, when swapping, what electrical componets will I need to pull from the junkyard, and finally, Does anyone know the average price a shop would charge just for the labor giving that I have acquired the majority of the parts for the install. Thank you and the more information you guys can give me the better.

IMO the supra motor is more difficult but can yield much more powerful results. I bought a complete wrecked supra for $1000, other than that you should estimate another $500 in parts on a budget, more if you want to do it "right". I supose the 3.4 is considered more reliable, not really sure what price range the motors are getting.


Either way id recommend getting a complete car that ran before it got wrecked, never underestimate the benefit of seeing how it goes together and having ALL the parts coming from one place. I bought just an imported motor and regretted it tremendously, so many things missing and the motor ended up being bad anyway. big waste of money and time.

 

nippon motors has the supra motor for 800 and the 3.4 for 1600, what parts would consist of the extra $500?

I have a 3.4 in my 95.

I would recomend it to anyone who currently has a 5 spd. It is almost idiot proof. The engine bolts in, the tranny bolts to the engine and life is pretty straight forward. I did not say easy or quick, but it is the best and most linear direction to take. 300 hp with Gadget's stuff is pretty awesome or 200 hp with headers, intake and exhaust is good too.

 

do you have a 22R(E)? if so, go with the supra engine
do you have a 3VZE? if so, go with the 3.4

my reasoning is, the supra engine will bolt to the R series mounts and tranny, while the 3.4 V6 will bolt up to the VZ series engine and tranny

 

Nippon motors has the 5vze for 1600?? is that a complete engine with all the covers, wiring harness... everything?
