alright guys, I got a upcoming 4wd conversion project going on for my 97 4runner

I've searched and found a write up from sonoran steel, but that one is for a manual tranny setup.

My question is on the tranmissioin mount, I know the mounts are different but are they spaced out differently on a 2wd and 4wd? Pics would help also.

And the tranny I bought came from a 98 Tacoma V6 4x4.

Well the tranny has been swapped out this weekend and will have to sit till next weekend. It turns out that Sonoran Steel info on the 4wd conversion also applys to automatics.....I was hoping it was different

Now I'll have to grind out the original one and move it on over

Well it looks like you've done the hard part, right?

How difficult was it to remove your transmission? How long did it take?

Im probably going to remove mine soon to replace my rear main seal.

Since it was a 2wd transmission it was a pretty easy to drop as its about half the weight of the 4wd one. I didn't keep track of time but I would say about an hour and a half.

Now putting up the 4wd A340F is another story...this thing is a beast compared to the A340E. I place that sucker on a piece of cardboard and dragged it under. I then took my time lifting that sucker up with a 2x4 onto 4x4 blocks front and back till I could put my first jack under the oil pan with a second jack holding up the transfer case.

Hardest part would be getting to the two upper bolts off an on as space is limited.

I am interested in doing this to my 2nd gen.

I am very surprised It didnt take you too much time. That makes me happy, because I think it is possible.

What did you do about the driveshafts and stuff?
Are you going to get a whole new center console for the extra shifter?

Driveshafts, center console and shifter were also swapped out to the 4wd one. Had to do some trimming for the transfer case shifter to poke through.

Hahhah....I'll post a few pics later as soon as I get off and clean the camera a bit.....stuck at work when I should be home relocating the crossmember

Problem solved with a Budbuilt crossmember...it was just easier for me as I didn't want to grind out the oem one and weld it in again

which bud built crossmember did you use? the 86-95 one? thanks
