4wd lever...Leather boot off!

My leather boot that goes from the top of my 4wd lever down to the plastic on the center console has come off. Does anyone know what I have to do to remove the center console right there, and what parts or things I need to do to reinstall the boot at the console end?

There is a writeup that I did under stereo installation, it shows how to take the panel off. It should have clips on the inside of the panel that holds the boot in place.

Leather Boot

Chris,

I did this just last night while putting on my cell phone bracket up by the radio on the passenger side. I took off the black cup holder part, held on with clips so just pull it up firmly. Unscrew 4x4 shifter knob. Then the piece that goes over the shifters pulls up the same way. The reason you pull up the cup holder part first is that when you put the shifter piece back on it must go down and slide forward and if the cup holder part is there is kinda puts it in a bind. Much easier with the cup holder piece pulled out. As far as the boot goes, you will see once you get the molding piece off the shifters that it is just held on by little clips. You can probably use the ones that you have as they either fell off or just pulled loose. The dealer carries a bunch of that kind of doodad where I am so you could pick up some more cheap I bet.

open console, pull up e-brake, lift cupholder piece, unscrew the t-case shifter knob, pull AT lever down, take shifter bezel off.

Sweet! Guys! I don't know what you mean by cup holders though, because mine are up on the dash, and not in my center console.

oh you have the 96-98 console. im sure it pops out in the same order.

actually, i if i remember correctly, the piece that goes around the e-brake goes all the way to the shifter bezel. so after you take off the piece around the e-brake, unscrew the t-case knob and pop off the piece.
