Question 4th Gen Tranny and T-case question

I'm coming up on my 15k maintainance and plan on changing out all of the fluids in my 4th Gen (yeah, I know, it's overkill but I'd rather be safe than sorry). I've got all of the recommended fluids and levels for the differtentials, but nothing on the tranny or transfer case for my truck. Can those of you with the 4th Gen manuals check what oil types and quantities are needed for the transmission and transfer cases ?

My 4th Gen is a V8 4x4.

BTW, I DID post this in the Maintenance forum, but it doesn't appear to get the traffic this one does.

Thanks,

Steve

This is the only thing I could find on the matter. Not entirely sure of how accurate it is though

It'd have to be the shop manuals becuase my 04 manual says zilch on the matter (some manual).

Edit.
Just to make what's in the word file more accessible...

Lefty,
I would be interested in the info too.

A bit of a hijack but how are things at 15,000? Your impressions?
How is the lift performing?

Nerve,

Thanks for the link ! This is definitely in the right direction ! Got the x-fer case oil down, but "T-IV" tranny fluid ? eh ? Dang, I hate being clueless...:pat:

FirsToy,

The honeymoon is still going ! The truck is running great and the lift is doing just fine. Got 6000+ miles on it. My only complaints: The sunroof rattle is back, I need a rear locker, and not enough room for all the crap I want to take camping (soon to be remedied by a Yak-rack).

Special atf that toyota/lexus uses you can buy it in gallon cans but it is pricey. HTH

I am pretty sure the AMSOIL Synthetic ATF covers the Toyota requirements.

Paul,

Thanks for the tip. I'll give the Toyo parts guys a call and find out how much I'm looking at. Wouldn't you know it, the next fluid that should be replaced after the regular engine oil costs a bunch and only comes in gallon sizes when you only need 2 quarts !

Gadget,

I was tempted to go Amsoil all over, but that stuff is expensive ! Also, I don't mean to slam the product, but with my warranty still running, I better stick with a well known name. I'll probably go with Mobil1 in everything except the tranny (unless I can find that they have a Toyota T-IV equivalent) At 45K, things will probably be a different story...

Lefty,
Can you do a write up on it so we can know what we will need and what to look out for? Sounds like good, fairly simple maintenance info alot of us could use.

I look forward to the write up even thought it's not that much harder then an oil change.

Is it only Toyota Trucks which require Toyota Fluid for the trans, my 03 ES300 says it does not need Toyota fluid and lets not forget at 30k 4Runner needs Toyota coolant

What does the gallon size containers cost of the trans fluid

Lefty
after all is said and done can you say how much all together you spent on fluids and anything else so I have an idea of what it will cost myself as well as other 4th Gen guys here and so I can compare your price with what my Toyota Dealers want for the 15K service just to see how much of a savings it is.

AMSOIL covers the Toyota ATF specifications and covers the warranty requirements.

Geez guys ! The next thing you'll want are pix of what I do during the service and descriptions of the oils as I drain them !

Uh-oh... :pat:

I'll try to take "detailed" notes of what I do. Gadget may just get me to buy some Amsoil after all if that Toyota tranny fluid is too much $$$. Looks like I have a bit of research to do...

Oh, and finally, don't think I'm doing this maintenance myself because I'm trying to save some $$. I've had too many bad experiences with dealer techs to trust them any more.
