4th Gen double-decker Mod – Pics

Got tired of stuff falling out of the back of my truck every time I open the hatch door (the design of the double decker basically makes stuff roll out), so I came up with a solution that works well, doesn’t cost too much, and takes very little time to make. It is also very easy to put in or take out.

I bought a length of Vinyl Post Jacket from Lowes for $20, cut it down with a scroll saw, and spray painted it. The material is thick enough to give it the strength to hold stuff back, yet light weight.

The material:

Side view after cutting:

The beveled lip (bottom) fits under the double decker and the weight of the decker holds it in place:

Finished product:

Hit it with some left-over silver spray paint and that's it. I've had it in for a few weeks now and nothing gets past it and falls out. At the same time it's not too high so as to get in the way of taking stuff in or out of the truck.

That's a cool idea, how did you decide to go with the post jacket?

Jonathan, I had an idea and just went to Lowe's scouting for the 'right stuff'. Wanted something light weight, yet sturdy and this fit the bill.

Lee, yeah it worked out perfectly, thanks.

Good idea. that would have been nice to have before my laptop slipped out the back! I quickly learned to use the cargo net (other net that came w/ truck) to keep that from happening again. It has 4 clips under shelf thing to keep stuff from sliding out.

Yeah, I've got the cargo net, as you can see in the pics, but it has been of limited benefit. Now I may have no use for it.

Nice idea and might even be good for all 4Runners.

It's a 2-tier cargo area. If you're really curious, go to a dealership and check it out. It's pretty neat.

Also on the limited models there is another cargo net that comes with the truck and it attaches differently to the back. It's stands like a foot tall and clips underneath the double-decker shelf thing at the very bottom and then up to clips on the side panels. It creates a rear wall. hope that makes since
