4Runner frames and hitches?

I am looking to get a reciever type hitch for my 86 4runner but have only found them listed for the 87 and newer model years. Are the 86 frames different from the 87 and later????

Right now I have a customized (by me) 89 toyota tube bumber on the 4runner but need something more sturdy.

Any help is much appreciated.

I used to own an 88.. 86 and 88 dont look any different but there may be frame differences.. One place to ask may be a dealership. They have vehicle dimensions for the frames.. If the dealer is good they will help you. They may also lie to you and say they cannot look it up that far back (because they are too lazy to dig through their system or factory service manuals)

Alternatively find someone with an 87-88, park side by side, grab a measuring tape and compare

the frames should be the same on the first gens. try contacting a place that sells and installs hitches, they should be able to tell you if there are any differences. i have an 86 (no hitch) and an 89 (hitch), ill take a look tomorow after work and see if they are indeed similar or not. ill post my findings. hope this helps.
