I usually move to N to get in and out of L4, but not to H4. I would never argue against going to N for any T-case shift, I'm sure its the safest thing to do. But as far as rena's problem, I did not understand if the 4x4 wasn't locking in, or the vehicle wasn't moving. I've never had auto hubs though, so I probably won't know anyway.
Good luck

Jeff, I usually do the same that you do, I stop the vehicle to shift L4, but to H4 I always do in motion.

My vehicle moves but dont engage to L4, it engages to H4 normally wile I am on the road...

I'm assuming the transfer case is electronic if you can shift to H4 while moving. It seems like something is wrong to where it is not engaging the low range (maybe just a switch?). I've never had trouble with mine, so I haven't had to work on it. Maybe someone else could be of more help.

Everything I have read and found to read on the trucks...the A340H auto and the the ADD auto hubs can be shifted from 2h to 4h at any forward speed below 35 MPH above that could cause an accident depending on road and driving conditions (now even that could cause an accident on an icey corner) and 4h to 4l at any speed forward speed below 5 MPH. To fully disengage the 4WD stop, shift park and 2h then shift to reverse and drive back appx 30 yards, stop shift to d and have a nice day.....For trouble shooting the A340H is does have the tester performing these shifts from park and netural.....but I have never seen a KEY OFF THEN SHIFT...

Glad I don't have to drive backwards or worry about trouble from auto hubs. The first thing I'd mod on an automatic locking front end would be manual hubs...

I know that I have, and I am sure that many many other have gone back to 2h with out ever backing up...I just know what the book says, and what the auto hub does...try use reverse in 4h or 4l on one that does not have the manual upgrade yet....the front does not always turn....one of the "unADDvertisied" joys of the auto hubs.....guess Toyota thinks no one would ever need 4wd reverse... ...that trick plus the fact that with the auto hub you are forever 'dragging' the front diff eating up MPGs. With normal DD stuff at 30 miles per day the manual hub upgrade will pay for itself in less than a year with the money you save on gas not to mention that you now have just touch more get up from stops and such, with the 3.0 and the auto mission anything you can do to help the gerbile under the hood helps......
its gonna sound bad but dont take it that way....I guess that is why most us think that something that makes it just a tad bit harder to shift in to 4wd is an UPGRADE
