Question 4 wheel drive L shift

Hi guys, there is question that I have:
In my 4Runner 1992 when I pull the shifter to L4 while the car is stop there is not working the low gear, but the 4 wheels works, I turn off the car and shift to L4 and it works. This looks to me that there is an electrical problem.

Please tell me what will be the problem.

I steel have problems with the speedometer, some timaes it works and some times do not.

Thanks.

Renato

The owners manual simply says to put your transmission into (N) Neutral when shifting from 2H to 4H or 4L.

That is all you need to know.

King, I do that and do not engage to L4, but then I turn off the vehicle and pull to L4, then turn it on again and it engage to L4.

I don't know about auto hubs, but with manual hubs and auto trans (ect) you shift between H2 and H4 anytime you want, and to L4 going less than 15mph. I dont understand the problem here, it sounds like the auto hubs arent locking in. Will the vehicle move at all when you shift to L4, or is it just not engaging 4 wheel drive?

Some vehicles have to be in Park to engage 4L but should not have to. 4L should always engage in Neutral.

Jeff, as far as I can remember, you can shift 4H on the fly but for the sake of it, my tranny goes into N everytime I move the transfer case shifter.

4Hummer: I try all, in Park, Neutral an wile going less than 15mph and do not engage, the I stop the vehicle, turn it off and pull to L4, then I turn it on an it engage to L4.

Jeffires: Maybe the problem is in the auto hubs, I am not sure because when I pull to H4 wile the vehicle is moving the hubs works Ok, I can feel it
