4 Cyl FIPK??
hey guys well i was wondering about the K&N FIPK. i know it doesnt do much if anything for the 3.4L, but i was wondering if it might be a little better for the 2.7L
any input would be great!

I have a K&N Air Filter and I didn't notice much of a difference if any, just makes a cool sucking sound. You won't notice that much of a difference until you get a high flow exhaust, you can not suck more air in than you can push out
But they are a good investment, You will never have to buy another air filter again!

dont have the answer for 2.7 but...
I can assure you of this. a while after using your K&N FIPK(if you choose to buy one), your intake tract will be filthy. So definitely consider the filtering abilities of the filter too.
I had a FIPK for my 3.4L V-6. I noticed a lot more noise(sucking intake sound) but thats it. I didnt notice a power improvement at all(even with a performance exhaust). When it was time for cleaning, which I did on a regular basis, I noticed an oily/dirty mess inside of the intake tract. What really amazed me was that there were even tiny stones that had slipped into the intake. This is not something you want in your intake, that close to your expensive MAF.
I say all that to say, that although I was skeptical about Amsoil at first, after re-installing the stock air box and the Amsoil filter, I had a quiter vehicle, better throttle response and what appears to better mileage too. So I think the K&N did rob the 3.4 of a few ponies. On a side note, although the FIPK comes with a heat shield for the hot engine bay, keep in mind that the stock air box is more shielded from the hot underhood temperatures, and draws air from the r/f fender area. so this alone could free up a few horsepower.
I would stick with the stock intake, deckplate mod and an Amsoil filter. You cant go wrong.

thanx for all your input guys.
i have decided not to get the K&N now, just dont wanna spend $250+ on something that may rob me of power and engine life.
looks like im finally gonna go for the deckplate and amsoil instead.

I know you've already decided not to get the FIPK but, you have only the opinion of people with the 3.4L I have the FIPK kit installed on my 3.0L 3VZE Engine (1991 4Runner) and have yet to have any problems with junk/oil getting into my intake and never had this "oily mess" problem some people talk about (I clean it every other oil change, and more often if i've been offroading). It has most certainly given me more power, and only one problem (that is I'm screwed if I want to go through a lot of water, but I never do that
)
In my opinion, on a 3.0L Engine (possibly on the 2.7L also) the FIPK is definitely worth the money.

Hey Casey. I got the 2.7 and I ran a 'cone' filter with adapter. Made a wierd noise and kept snapping my home made brackets. :mad: It sucked ...
I'm using the K&N drop in filter, I don't off road or go near water, so instead of a deckplate (to remove or replace as needed) I just cut a big hole (square) on the front of the airbox. I believe the V-6er's have the opening facing the side. I zip tied some spare gutter-guard mesh over the big opening. I wish I could afford the Japan under-headlight air ducts. It would be a ram-air straight into the air box. If I ever get a 'spare' panel from the bone yard, I may try and 'glass' or carbon fiber an air duct. I pulled the elbow too. It did give a 'seat of the pants' improvement.

butnut,
thanx for the input man, that helps a lot. ya i was thinking about getting a new airbox cuz one of my brackets is on the verge of breaking off so i figure im just gonna do the deckplate mod and call it a day (for intake anyhow)
