4.0 V6

Does anyone have a picture of the 4.0 V6 with that plastic cover removed from the engine?

Here you go

here I'm holding the cover up- you can see the oil filter next to the fill.

I can see why Toyota wants to cover that thing up. Looks like ALIEN III.

Where is the MAF sensor?

Thanks for the pictures!!

I think it's on the side of the air filter box (that big rectangular box over on the left)

Is that the oil filter I see there on the top left side of the head? Talk about convenient.

I have seen the filter on the trucks I test drove.

The little thing that catches the spilled oil when the filter is removed, where does that drain to?

There is just a hole at the bottom. When I do oil changes on them at work, I hold a plastic cup underneath so it doesn't drain onto the skid plate.

You put a length of plastic tube on it and the oil drains directly into your oil disposal container. (you can leave it plugged and just wipe out the catch dish- not a whole lot of oil drips out if you're a bit careful)
I have the oil change machine (german unit, griots) so I have never used the drain plug on my truck- never gone under it for an oil change. It makes it stupid-easy.

That Griot's machine is pretty neat. It gets just as much oil out as by draining it via the plug? Looks convenient.

Yes, it's very nice unit. The drain tube goes down to the bottom of the oilpan. It's a 4 liter engine but I usually get about 5 liters of oil out.

edit: btw, you don't have to remove the engine cover to change the oil- it helps if you need room to get at a really stubborn filter otherwise, no.

I may have to look into that unit when I'm done with school and I am living somewhere that I can change my oil. Wouldn't do me much good right now. I saw on the website they said it could be used for other things too.
Even though the oil filter on the 3.4 is a PITA to get off I think this machine would still help a lot.

Those things are slick, but using the drain plug also flushes stuff out of the bottom of the pan. So, I would still use the drain plug method every once and a while.
