From what I recall when I owned my '00, there was no way to identify a locked '00 v. an open rear diff '00. Nobody ever found a good VIN-only way, right? (this would save me some time for Internet 4Runners- I wouldn't have to call)

However, what does the 9th digit correspond with? It's the one before the Y in all 2000 4Runners. Is it the factory? I've found 4Runners with pretty much every number but 4 in that place.
