3rd gen stereo

ok so i have a few questions, i am in the middle of a major stereo upgrade and i was noticing the speakers in the back are small, i am assuming there 4"s with our measureing and i have heard that you can fit 5 1/4" in place of them is this true, and if so how deep could you go with the speakers with out interfearing with the window.

i am planing on doing the 6 1/2 polk sr componets, and the polk momo's in the back, dose any one have any oppininon on these speakers.

also, my driver seat' mounting bolt has some how been ripped through the mettal of the body, has this happend to any body, if so how did you go about fixing it.

The rears are 4.25". You can upgrade to 6.5" in the rear...I believe it just takes a good bit of trimming and spacing to get everything to fit properly.

I installed a pai of 5.25" in the rear when I did my speaker overhaul. I only had to do some minor trimming and spacing. Check it out here:

be careful in the rear. i just finished my setup in my 97 runner and was planning on putting some focal 6.5" comps in the back but they were way too deep. you can buy adaptors that allow you to put a set of 5 1/4" speakers in the rear spot but any larger you have to keep in mind the size of the door panel where it covers the speakers. my 6.5's either hit the glass or hit the door panel. they are just rear fill anyway and besides you can get a good set of 5 1/4" speakers on ebay for under $50

how much distance can you move the speakers away from the glass with out the door panel interfearing - You have a fair amount of room. Again, I did not measure it. I simply trimmed the inside of the panel enough so it did not contact the speaker
See my comments above in RED.

As you can see in this picture of one of my rear speakers below, I moved it out just far enough to not touch the glass, yet still recessed enough to not make contact with the door panel either.
