Not sure about 2nd gens but the mounting holes were present on my 99-3rd gen.

Lots of 2nd gen vehicles here in Denver at Yoda Jims. (303) 506-5119

If you need me to pick one up for you and ship it just let me know. I have spare time at present as my Census work has ended and I am still unemployed. Let me know if I can help you out. state the color needed and perhaps someone closer to you may have a part out going.

Ron,

Thanks for the info. I talked to Sean at Toyota Jim's very helpful, nice guy. I'm getting a handle shipped from him.

It's for a 3rd gen, I know my sig says 2nd gens but they are gone. Since then I haven't renewed my membership so I can't change my sig.

Thank you again for your help, good luck on the job hunt.

Jerry

You can update your sig at any time. There is no "membership renewal" process.

And yes, you can install a grab handle on the driverside on both a 3rd gen and 2nd gen. I did it when I had a 2nd gen and I've added one to my current 3rd gen.

Who ever said 3rd gens don't have predrilled holes on the driverside is an idiot. 3rd gens across the pond (known as surfs) are right hand drive. The passenger has a grab handle on those models...thus you'll def have one on the driverside of your 4Runner. Toyota aint stupid.

good to see you got it figured out Jaydee! those guys at Yoda Jims are okay.

If I am not mixing my names up he originally owned Yoda Yard or Yota Yard but then his ex got that business in the divorce. So I generally will shop Yoda Jims before I step foot in the other, having had that Big D myself....

Just did this on my 98 it took 5 min's total. I picked one up at the local salvage yard $2.00 total plus another tow hook for the driver side. The grab handle already had the screws and cover from the take off part truck (97 SR5). All I did was simply take the phillips head screw driver and poke a hole in the headliner where the stock mounting points were. I then lined up the handle and screwed it in. This could not have been easier.

The real pain is getting the tow hook mounted. Took some persuasion at the salvage yard to get the tow hook off of the donor truck but I can not budge the bolts on my 98. I may have to get a breaker bar to get it to move but thats a story for a different thread.
