3rd Gen Engine Swap? Can't Find.

Ok, since my 4Runner’s engine is dead (see my previous post) I’ve been looking for a 3rd Gen engine swap but can’t find anything. Do they just not exist? I would prefer a v8 but can’t find anyone who has done anything to a 3rd Gen. Help me out guys.

Well, a V8 would be pretty sweet, but no one has ever to my knowledge even attempted one. The 3.4L so far have been very solid and no one around here has needed to swap or re-build (other than self inflicted engine wounds by the driver), and even then people just swap in another 3.4L. They can be found for relatively cheap, and your avoiding all the issues of fitment of a different engine, the engine ecu wiring and matching up the bellhousing to the tranny. If it's more horsepower you want just swap in a another 3.4L and supercharge it, and do URD fuel mods.

But if you are dead set on a V8 swap more power to you, be the first and document your progress.

Supposedly two 4.7's have been done into Tacoma's...

If my rig were down, I'd do one of two things depending on how much I have invested in the 3.4. If I had an S/C or other add-ons for the V6, I'd do a full build with ported heads, etc. A very quality build that enhances performance.

If it were stock... I'd go 4.7... just because.

Someone mentioned it on 4x4wire or Marlin's board... can't remember... I've only heard rumors - but I say go for it!

I have not seen one in a 3rd gen but here is one in a 2nd gen (it will be quite similar on a 3rd gen):

Personally I would just swap in another 3.4L if you are looking for the quick and painless route.
If you go through with the V8, please do document what you did along the way (I am sure others will want to see as well)

I'm really surprised that no one is doing the 4.0 V8 sawps on 3rd gen 4runners. I have a 99 4x4 limited that I love, the engine is solid as can be, I just did the timing belt at 90K and it it's smooth sailing. But when it finally does give out at 250K, I'd love to put in the Lexus motor.

I don't go off-road much but I do tow with it and I'd just like some more low end grunt that super/turbo charging won't give me. It will be a few years but maybe I'll be the first :-)

I saw someone doing a SB in an older runner on here and I've seen older trucks with them in. I was also wondering though if anyone had done it to a 3rd gen. I know years ago, Advanced Adapters used to make SB kits for S-10's. If they ever came out with this for the 3rd Gen that would be great.
