3rd gen 4runner Scoop Hood (more) questions

Good morning, I did a search and found this list of parts needed to install a scooped hood:

53301-35170 Hood Sub-Assy, Sport Hood ($325.29)
Is this absolutely needed? What is it?

76181-35901 Bulge Hood ($114.15)
Same with this....

76192-35010 Plate, Hood Bulge ($13.20)
76182-35020 Guide, Hood Air ($13.58)
90263-04054 Rivet ($0.57) X 2
90167-45005 Screw, Pan Tappin ($0.72)
76183-12030 Protector, Hood ($0.71)
90179-06324 Nut ($2.20) X4
76187-35010 Retainer, Hood ($0.89)
76184-12020 Protector, Hood ($0.71)
76185-35010 Protector, Hood ($7.00)

Can someone tell me if the two most expensive parts above are needed and exactly what they are (pics)? TIA

Plus paint . It's a good chunk of money for something that doesn't do anything. Even the overpriced LED tail lights have a purpose, lol. If you really gotta have it, toyotapartsales.com can get you the parts for around $375 it looks like, then add shipping/tax.

Yeah, looking back now, paint was a waste of money. I'm still happy I got my sport hood but now that I have chips and the clear coat is yellowing a touch, I should have just spray painted it black or something else. I do agree though, it's money better spent on other more useful toys. I had an employee discount on parts and paint so it wasn't as big a hit to the wallet, but I still should have bought a nice set of bumpers first. Oh well, hindsight.

yup...........its how i feel, looks cool as hell but purpose wise, well, doesn't really do anything.... i thought about just getting the hood and running it w/o the insert (my truck is black already) but then thought that might be just too ghetto and didn't want all the water in the motor (i live in seattle). oh well..........

Exclamation RE: hood scoop 3rd gen 4Runner

If you are lucky enough to live near a Certifit, they have the hood with scoop hole for $61.75. That pretty cheap, and well worth it if you can find a bulge or get one from Toyota or online for $110-$130. With paint it will be about $300 out the door. Saved me enough money to get the Redline QuickLIFT Elite hood struts!
