3rd Brake Light LED question...

Are the 3rd brake lights from a '95+Taco fit 4Runners? I have the Jaos LED roof spoiler so I can't tell. Reason I ask is they make a LED 3rd light for the Tacos and maybe these would fit or can be fabricated:

they look about the same size and shape but i'm not sure if it would be a drop in install. just looked them up on summitracing.com and they are about $116 + shipping; a little pricey for me especially if it doesn't fit. perhaps some one with deeper pockets would be the guinea pig and try it out.

i like that, all youd need is a taco and a 4runner to swap to check compatibility. All these nice little money eaters! Pfdaxe, are you thinking of ditching the jaos spoiler?

Noooo...I like the Jaos. Just looking out for others that have mentioned they want an OEM style replacement

i guess if we take some measurements and get someone with a taco to do the same we could figure it out.

was checking out some stuff on ebay and looked up 4runner 3rd brake lights and the tacoma 3rd brake light, found a couple auctions with similar pics to compare size and shape, mostly shape as it doesn't have any actual measurements.

'99 4runner 3rd brake light
and
new LED Tacoma 3rd brake light

to me, the 4runner brake light looks longer and is not as rounded on top as the tacoma brake light. but, until an actual fit is tried this is not a scientific finding on my part. i was thinking if some one couldn't actually compare the fit of the 4runner and tacoma 3rd brake lights in person, one could buy one of those cheap metal or plastic light covers on ebay for a few dollars and test fit with that and it would show if the shape is the same or not. just a thought.

I'm actually taking my old 3rd light to work tomorrow since 4 people I work with have Tacos. Two have Tundras so it looks like a Toyota lot at work

I'm very surprised that manufacturers haven't considered making these for the 3rd gen. Considering the years applicable 96-02, and the number of these on the road, it's a no-brainer.

Eagle eyes will probably figure it out after sales of their LED tails pick up.

Found this thread on google. Apparently the guy sent in his stock brake light to xenonstore.com and now they sell an LED version for $33 for the Matrix. I just emailed them to see if they would entertain the idea of manufacturing one for our trucks. I'd be willing to ship up my unit.

Sorry guys. Just checked. The 4Runner 3rd light is about an inch wider than the Tacos...
