31" tire pkg on a '93
I was wondering if anyone here knows what all was included in the "big tire package" that was offered on the SR5, V6 runners in 1993? So far the differences are the tires :pat: and the gas tank is a little larger (70 litre vs. 65 litre)
It seems that the one I bought a few weeks back came with the standard tires (my speedo is out by approx 10% 'cause it now has 31s) according to the nameplate on the B-pillar.
What I'm primarrily interested in finding out is if there was any drive train differences.
TIA!

Not sure if there was a difference with the fuel tanks but the gear ratio is different. I believe that the 31 in. tires came with 4.88's and the smaller tires came with 4.10's. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Since it was supposed to be a work vehicle, we didn't want anything extra, like power anything, chrome, etc. The only thing we really wanted was 4WD, air conditioning, auto tranny, and cruise control. Ironically, we ended up getting almost top of the line because the only way we could get those things was to get the packages. So in short, this 4Runner was everything but the rear air deflector (SR5).

My Speedo be off by switching from 225's to 31's. I like my gearing though. I run about 2800 RPM at 70. Well 70 on the speedo not quite sure how fast it really is.. more like 75 I think.

B-pillar I have 254 gears..!?!!??!?
Go to the link I provided in the earlier post, (G)254 means you have 4:56 gears with 4 pinions (V6). The G means 8" diff.
I have 4:30 gears, and want to go to 4:56, so if anyone has spare 4:56 V-6 ring and pinions laying around, let me know.
I plan on getting 2 Supra LSD diff's within the next couple of months, and doing some mods...the 2nd gen had 7.5" LSD that should work in the front, and 3rd gen Supra's LSD will work in the rear: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/supra_lsd/ But, I'll have to change the ring and pinion in both. I need to keep it a cheap project, in case it doesn't work, he he.

Thanx Rob,
I didn't look at the post close enough when you originally posted it.
My truck came with 225/75-15 as standard equip. but the previous owner put the 31s on it. I'm kind of curious what the diff ratio would be if it came with the 31s as standard.

My truck (93 V6 SR5 auto) came with the 31" tire package and 4.88 gears. Don't pay any attention to the tire size on the door tag, mine also says 225/75-15 but I know it came with 31s because I bought it new.

Bryan, the 31" means roughly the diameter of the tire. The 225/75-15 means it fits on a 15" rim, the 225 is the width of the tire, and the 75 is the aspect ratio(sidewall lenght to the width) I believe. There is a formula to figure out the diameter for these tires although I can't remember where I saw it. It comes out to roughly 28.5" if I remember right. Hope this helps.
