3 CD Dashmount Changer, '99 Runner

I have the 3CD Dashmount Changer in my '99 4Runner. Are those problematic, or are they pretty stable? I tested it out (putting 2 cds in) and they loaded just fine. Changed from cd 2 to cd 3 and then back again. Then when I changed it again, I got Error 3. Looking in the manual, it just said internal issues. Because the "tray" was in the out position, I was able to trigger the release and take the cartrige out and then hit the eject and out came my CD. After that, I put the cds back in and reloaded it. Seems to work fine.

Is this kind of the norm for a system that's 11 years old? Could this have been just a freak of nature? How many others have had issues with these systems?

Thanks!

I had that problem I first got my 96. It would spit out the cartage but not the CD.

From what I've read when I had that poblem with mine. Is that it's a common problem with those CD players. To get it fixed ou either have to send into the manufactur which takes a couple of weeks or just buy a new.

I opted to get a new one since I had to take mine apart to get my cd back.

No problems with mine since that first time.. But I'll keep my eye on it. If it returns, I may need to upgrade...

Thanks.

It seems all but the Nakamichi in-dash units have problems. Even then, those have problems too. I suggest a Scion unit and get a changer thrown under the seat or in the back.

when i got my runner (used), the internals were TRASHED. i think the cartridge that slides in and out eventually catches on something and bends it upward in the player. i opted to get an aftermarket deck (from josh, uh...deathcougar) and put my 6 disc pioneer changer under the driver's seat. fits good, faced back. from my experience and the lack of them out there today (i'll probably eat those words) i'd say they are probably problematic. hope it continues on well on into the future for ya!

Yep, it happened again last night. So I'll just not use it for now. I'm more interested in tires and wheels here in a couple of months then a new stereo. It's just all nice to know though.

Thanks Everyone!

Scion, uh? That's an idea... Do those bolt right in, or do we need an adapter plate of somekind?

They bolt right in using your 4Runner brackets. You will have to do a little trimming around the face plate but it works and looks good. Not to mention they are Pioneer units. If you have extra cash, you can go for one of the Alpine units if you are that interested. I THINK those will work. But I know that the older Pioneer ones work fine. However, STAY AWAY FROM THE 6 DISC Scion unit. They have the same mechanical issues as the 3 disc one you have.

But the single disc sounds good and has MP3 disc capability. I can get 150ish songs on one disc. Not too shabby....
