cough, cough, gag, gag. I'm sorry, from here it sounds like you are saying autozone is top notch, I guess I heard you correctly since anyone who really knows, knows that Autozone parts are actually closer to 5th rate, they SUCK!

Riiiight, keep thinking that. Actually they do sell 2nd rate parts I have the customers and testimony to prove it. As for challenging mail order parts, there's no challenge I sell the real deal, they don't. I wouldn't trust them with anything vital or crucial on my vehicle. I have too many customers that come in the shop after just purchasing parts from Autozone and they have broken or don't perform correctly. I am speaking from what I see everyday and what my customers tell me.

BTW, if you think you are getting a deal from these guys on your parts guess again. They have a higher mark up on their parts than the dealership does. We supply them with certain parts that there are no aftermarkets for. I have been in a few stores and seen what they retail for vs what they buy them from us for. This holds true to a lot of other products they sell in their store as well.

I have the middle of the line rotors from Autozone that cost like $40 each. I originally bought these rotors as "temporary" as I was going to buy drilled/slotted rotors, but couldn't afford at the time. The castings look identicle the the original OEM rotors. Living in the mountains my brakes get a lot of use, and these rotors have held up well (to my suprise). I use the Perf. Fric. pads #5024.

Weird. I wonder why every other model besides the 98 would have LPV's (aka BPV's)?

Are you sure?

Check out this and scroll down to the brake section. I just dont understand why Toyota would "skip" the 98's and put them on everything else.

*Edit* Ok, now I get it. It says the 4 cyl models have it. Hmmm. Ok, well I stand corrected for the 3.4. It just doesnt make sense to me.

keep scrolling....

<96 runner> if you keep scrolling to the right you'll see this:
"Power-assisted with proportioning & bypass valve for V6/ABS equipped models"

so I think they DO have the LSP/BV.

can anyone clarify this? I need to check to see mine's in the correct length spec!

That's a mixup on our part. I was referring to a Load Sensing and Prop Valve. Mine doesn't have a load sensor, it's just a Proportioning and bypass valve. I see what you are talking about.

'aight!

Ok, I'm confused. What's the difference btwn a LSP and a Proportioning Valve? does one just balance the front to rear ratio...and the other actually DOES check for the amnt of weight in the rear of the truck??

Actually haha, you were half right and I was half right. The LSP's (aka BPV's) is not right. Load Sensing and Proportioning/Bypass Valves have the arm to sense the rearend load. The one that is in the V6 equipped runners is just a Proportioning/Bypass Valve, not the Load Sensing variety, hence the confusion on my part since I have no load sensing arm in my rear, ooh that didn't sound right.

so....

where they say in the manual that you "must have final shackle adjustments performed at a reputable shop" can be ignorned? (since it has none)
All that would matter would be that the valve is functioning correctly, correct? And how would one determine that?

The LSP/BV actually checks the weight in the back via an arm that moves the valve to sense a load. the PB/V just proportions it, not sure how though, I assume it's computer controlled because of the ABS and uses the wheel speed to calculate it or something. Talking out of my again, .

I got a quote from toyotaparts4u for the rotors

Rotors 43512-35210 $73.08

Is that good?

I prefer using factory parts.

If you've ever tried installing an aftermarket rear brake cylinder you might understand why I use OEM parts and just try to get the best deal possible.

After going through several of them from different vendors and wasting a lot of valuable time I ended up going to the dealership and getting one of them that worked perfect the 1st time.

This was on my 1989 4Runner.

Rotors

The front rotors going off the part number in the previous thread would be $144.08 shipped to your front door.

Brakes: 04465-35240 $41.71 w/ shipping

Total for both would be $185.79 w/ shipping to your front door.

I already ordered the TRD HP Pads through toytoaparts4u

Cost $42.95

After I take off the tires this weekend and check the rotor width I'll decide whether to have the rotors replaced.

Thanks!

Well I went to the stealership today and talked to them about ht e rear proportioning valve and when I did they looked at me like a deer in headlights. I then asked to talk with a technician who said I don't think it has one.

Anyhow to make a long story short. I got my keys back and left.

I will be installing my TRD Transmission cooler and decided I'd see what I can do about the brakes since I'm already go to be working on the vehicle.

I'll take some pictures and let you know what I find out.

That's the reaction I get from those guys whenever I go in and ask anything, even something like "where's the oil filter in the thing." The one guy I talked to who did my rear axle seal under waranty 3 times, and I mean the guy that actually did the work, couldn't even tell me the offset distance or tolerance on the last bearing ratainer/seal surface! and when asked if he can look it up, what does he tell me? "Uh, I don't think so." not because he wouldn't, but because he didn't know that he could! so I had to join AllDataDiy to get the offset info so I could press the abs rotora and last retainer on. long story short, I wouldn't believe all of what those dudes say. I haven't been able to locate it on mine either but I don't have a soft brake problem and bleeding the 4wheels has done a good job with mine so I haven't been inclined to search all that well for it.
