3.4 v6

I just got back from a local junkyard looking for a 3.4 for a future project. The yard owner told me that the toyota 3.4 is the same block and heads that were used in the late chevy camaros. He seams very knowledgeable and I don't think he was trying to B.S. me.He didn't have either one on hand to look at.Dose anybody know about this.Toyota and chevy shareing the same blocks and heads. If so.Would they interchange.Thanks.

I know I've seen an early 90's Isuzu Trooper with a GM type 3.1 under the hood if I remember correctly? It was a trade in at the GM dealer I wored at.

I would have to say there is now way. Now With Iszuzu I could see them sharing blocks seeing as how GM owns them not sure how much or if all. But I can tell you that GM's new diesel motor in the HD (duramax) is a motor that Iszuzu created and has been using in other parts of the world. My facts are not concrete but I am pretty sure about that. And if I am correct our 3.4 are 4cam motors and GM just started making reliable DOHC's and I am still not sure they are that reliable.

Highly doubtful.
With all the smart guys out there coming up with engine swaps and mods to make more power, it would have come up. There are no GM trans swaps for the 3.4 (or any toyota,) yet another reason to doubt it.
But I've been wrong before.

Ummmmm....no, I think your man is smokin crack there.
The camaro had 2 engines (3.4 and the 3.8L) but neither had any parts in common with a Toyota engine.
This little ebay ad will help you (no foreign cars in that list right?):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33617

Sorry, you need a 3.4L out of a Tacoma or 4Runner only.

Thanks for some of the replies.I listed the above post as heresay. but because of me being the type that is usually thinking outside of the box.I gave Ron's(yard owner) statement some thought. The thought of finding a more available engine at a lower cost is,was real appealing.I only have small junkyards around here with earlyer modle stuff. So I can't substantiate or refute ron's claim buy physically looking at and matching them up.Te be honest I have no experince at all with either engines.I've never even had a reason until now or a chance to look at one in person, yet. So I claim total ignorance on these two paticular engines.I did do a search on google. After over 20 pages pages.(I got tired)All I found was that GM made a DOHC 3.4 from 91-97.Toyota started the DOHC 3.4 in 96 maybe some rare late 95.So I guess I need to rephrase the thought or question to anybody with firsthand knowledge on this possibility of these engines and heads being the same.I do not consider heresay as fact. Hence this posting and the vast cumulative knowledge of this form's members to help me.I do not know how to cut and paste links.Again I claim ignorance in puter land, typing english and spelling too.(sorry).But in responce to mtl 4runner.First off.I respect Ron highly. He is a older gentalman(50-60).I consider the man a walking automotive encyclopedia. He can spout things off so fast.It makes your head spin.He may not even know what crack is let alone smoke it.Speaking of which.I do not know what your link to ebay is sapposed to refrance. Those heads are listed for a 3.8.I'm talking 3.4s.BruceTS.Are you laughing at my ignorance and out of the box thinking.Or at mtl 4runner link about the 3.8 heads for my 3.4 question.Sorry if I'm wasting forum space for a stupid question.Just please leave a hole in the box so I can come back in when necessary. Thanks

Unless GM is manufacturing engines in Japan I would absolutely say he may have smoked his breakfast one too many times. The engines are manufactured by Toyota for Toyotas. The 3.4 they had in the camaro were completly different design, the Chevy 3.4 is a pushrod, cam in block design, while the Toyota 3.4 is double overhead cam.
