3.0 or 3.4 V6 ?

Newbie question! What years are the 3.0 and 3.4 V6 in, and what does everybody like and why? I'm getting ready to buy a couple (wife and I) We wont be towing or racing. I will be wheeling a little though!

88 Saw The Introduction Of The 3.0.it Died With The 2gen 4runner and pickup In 95 And Toyota Introduced The 3.4 in 96-04 i think, correct me if im wrong. One Or Two Years Ago They Came Out With The 4.0 Wich Is Now In The New Tacoma.i Dont Think The 3.4 Is Still Being used in any new models.hope this helps

o and get a tacoma or 4runner with the 3.4. it gets better gas mileage and makes more power.the 3.0 also has head gasket problems.

don't buy the 3.0!! the second gens look sweet, but the 3.0 is just not a good engine. if you really love the second gen get a 22re. Thought I'd recommend a 2000ish tacome or 4runner. My friend has a 2002(I think) 4 door tacoma and I was shocked at how much space it has, but at the same time I'm in love with the 3rd gens (just don't tell my 2nd). Good luck, as long as you buy a toyota, you're already off to a good start.

I disagree, the 3.slow is a very good engine, it just doesn't have the power to push that large of a vehicle. It is a great motor for wheeling. Very good low range. I f you want power then get the 3.4. 1996 to 2003 4Runner and Tacoma. Don't expect good gas milage though.

I also think the 3.0 is a decent engine. I have seen many with crazy amounts of miles on them. With a couple mods and the right gearing they are okay on power but definately not the power of the 3.4 by any means. The 3.0 was available from 88-95. 96 is when the Runners starting getting the 3.4L.

early 95 had the early style truck (identical to 94) and mid-late 95 had the tacoma. did the tacos have the 3.0?

not sure about the 3.0's but just got a front clip from a 95 t100 that has a 3.4 in it. no doubt one of those mid year changes just to confuse everyone!

I believe it was 95.5 on the T100 and Tacoma that the 3.4L came out but the 4runner did not see the change until 96
