I know there's a place in texas that imports them, and just about any other japaneese or european motor you could want, www.asapmotors.com, not bad prices either. EDIT: ok, now as I look at their site I dont see any yota diesels, but I swear they had some last time I looked and I'm pretty sure someone on this board got one from them.

cuz I have access to one or more, I am not sure about the gas mileage of this engine if it is worth the effort to install it since the engine is in Malaysia where I am now. I am doing research on the import procedure, shipping cost and tariff now. The whole thing (the front clip, includes tranny and the whole front end of the runner) will cost about $3000 or less, I think the shipping shouldn't cost more than $1000 to get it back to US. I have test driven my couson's land cruiser Prado which he installed the same engine and it is very fun to drive. If there are more people interested, I probably can get this engine to us, should be cheaper for shipping this way.

I am stationed in the UK and have a 3rd gen Hilux Surf (4Runner) with a 3.0 Turbo Diesel. It has loads of torque, I can travel at 100mph on the motorway, and get about 23-25 mpg. It is very smooth and you can't tell it's a diesel, as it doesn't smoke or rattle much...

A friend of mine have a KDJ125 Land Cruiser (I think you name it Prado) with the 3.0 163HP diesel engine and when wheeling I use to be one gear upper of him.
He sais that his engine don't have power until 2000rpm while 1KZ-T or 1KZ-TE engines have a lot of torque at very low rpm.

Mine never smokes...

So what kind of gas mileage do you get out of your surf? The engine I am getting from is from a 94 or 95 1kz-te. Thanks for your info!!

We calculate the fuel consumption in liters/km and I think do it in miles/gallon.
Supposing that this is correct,

Mine drinks:

- 10 liters/100 km when doing road and highway, thats... Mmmm... 23.54 miles/gallon.

- 14 liters/100 km when offroading (Offroad here is low and hard, almost always with 4L, not fast driving...), thats 16.81 miles/gallon.

1 gallon = 3.79 liters
1 mile = 1.61 km

Ranma: I get 11-12 km/ltr during highway driving and 8-9 km/ltr when city driving. Mine has the intercooler and LT285/75R16 tires (speedometer has electronic speedmeter corrector).

DeathCougar: The front clip usually includes everything up front. It's basically the front half of the vehicle.

Blizzard: I think there's something wrong with your friend's turbo. You see the 1KD-FTV engine is equipped with a variable-nozzle turbo which allows the turbo to provide/maintain boost to provide a max torque of 352 Nm at an engine rpm of around 1400-3400. The 1KZ-TE engine develops max torque of 340 Nm at 2000 rpm.
I recently test drove a Hilux with the 1KD-FTV engine and I easily felt the difference of having higher torque at lower rpms.

That is pretty good gas mileage (about 26-30 MPG highway)!
With smaller tires you must be well over 30 mpg on a regular basis....impressive.

Jamie,

Thanks. But this is only when I don't go beyond 85kph. If I go faster than 85 kph, there's a drastic increase in fuel consumption, around 10 km/ltr.
