2nd gen headers...

I was just wondering how many people are running headers on their 2nd gen 4runners, or trucks for that matter. What do ya'll think about them and which ones are the best??? Basically I need to know if they are worth the money and where can I find the best deal? Thanks

I read everything on 4 different 4Runner forums and went with a 2.25 cat-back and a looooong Flowmaster. The general consensus was the headers cost about $800 by the time you did a body lift, did a custom exhaust and bought the headers. Too much for too little gain.

Why do you need to do a body lift? I didn't . If you do it right the first time, you're looking at maybe $600 max, considering you install the headers yourself.

That's what I was thinking. Which muffler do you recomend with the headers??? I know that tons of people have already asked this question, but I haven't seen anyone with headers say anything. Thanks

I'm using a flowmaster 40 series myself. If I had to do it again, I'd go with a Magnaflow just for curiosity purposes. Anything free flowing will do fine. Most people just pick what they want based on sound, as they all pretty much flow the same. One thing I definitely recommend is an upgraded catalytic converter (free flow) to help out with backpressure. Car Sound makes very good ones.

that's cool. Thanks for the info. One more question. Which muffler has the deepest tone, or "rumble" to it? I want something that is actually going to make my 3.slow sound meaner than it is. Oh, and by the way, my tires AND lift came in today so I should have them finished by the weekend. (hopefully)

That sounds like a good plan. I'd like to check out your rig anyways. Just PM me and let me know how I can get a hold of you.
