What engine do you have? Let me guess, it's a 2nd generation (90-95) with the 3.0L V6.

im actually guessing it's a 91.5-94 3vze....

Btw - dump the TTY head bolts which are 1 time use ONLY and use head STUDS and torque em down.

A toyota dealership will NOT replace the TTY headbolts even though they are strictly one time use only. This is why your headgasket is letting go so much.

Wow, I didn't know that. I am going to have to do a head swap some time soon so that is really good to know that the bolts arn't suposed to be re-used. Why is that anyway?

I was wondering if I was the only one that this happened to, I noticed just a few days ago that familiar smell of burning oil going uphill and was definetly not pleased. Thanks for the info, Bumpin' Yota.

Twice now. Third time's the charm. Supposedly, toyota eventually figured it out and improved things. The newer gaskets are supposed to be better.

TTY bolts are - torque to yield bolts. Im guessing they stretch/flex a full 1/4-1/2 turn beyond the correct torque. Using TTY bolts are cheaper than studs but also wont hold the heads down as well.

Racer944 - are you sure that's the headgaskets? My truck burns oil like it does gas, but only because the valve covers leak like sieves and dump oil onto the exhuast manifolds...lol Pull your dipstick and look atthe oil. If it's all milky looking, there's coolant in it. Same with the radiator...
